Here is the skiff. Started with floor and seat risers. Next is mock up with impatient Captain. Then we start the planking. Topspiece is cut oversize so I can sand to hull persactly. It is epoxied to hull for convenience in sanding but breaks loose quite easily. With a little heat, epoxy also peels easily from wood. The last two are of the last plank and then with topspiece. I also built a locker for pfd's, ropes, sat phone and Canadian whiskey. Now I am stuck again pondering. Should I plank and stain the outer hull or paint to match exterior of yacht? That would mean white with the pearl overlay and clear coating. And what type of oarlocks would be on this dingy? That means some type of hardware on oars too? And then the decals/graphics. Would a 'Dauntless' on the transom do or name on side as well? And this is just the little boat!!!

OK here we go. Will post pics when finished.I wii make top sockets and round oarlocks. I'm gonna pass on the bushings. I'm guessing nothing secures oar to oarlock other than pressure applied by person rowing.

And you are correct. Only the weight of the oars hold them in place, that and normally a rubber flanged sleeve that prevents the oars from sliding out of the locks and protects them from wear

Here's a link for some leather ones, just to give you an idea on what they look like:

Extra nice, thanks. I have some Cuckoo bellows material (skiver) that will do nicely.

Hey Rich - Thanks !
Guys, I know that in todays world its not so novel to put graphics on your dinghy, but where would it be proper to put Dauntless on this little boat?
Or not at all?

Most dingy's have the home boat's name on the transom, if used at all. I'd put it there or not use it at all

Hi all, It's with deep regret that our friend on this forum, Werdon, aka Butch that used to chat with us here recently passed on. He will always be a friend of the Dauntless. Wishing him fair winds and calm seas. -Rich.

Got caught up with oarlocks and ended up making a whole 'nother boat This uses the rowbot module that is so popular. Really a fun build. .

Default 3rd sailing

This is my Dauntless bare bones 3rd sailing. Topless this time as I forgot to bring them. 2 Graupner 700 turbos with two 5000 Mah nimh 9.6v packs per motor. 2 50 amp esc's and motors do get very hot! I thought I could dodge the water cooling as Bill did but they are too hot to touch. Any one have a source for pumps? I would like a nice stream of water shooting out the stern. Cheers

Hi Koka, Looking good!

I have passive cooling pickups behind the props, they don't really start circulating until the boat is 60-75% throttle.

If you do a search on mini 12vdc pump, there are some interesting mini-pump options out of China. The lowest cost pumps are not self priming, so the challenge would be how to get them primed, perhaps attach the pump inputs to the same passive cooling pickup locations I'm using?

2170081[/IMG] Found and ordered these. Self priming and one boater said it shot water 18 feet with 7.4v lipo. I think I'll try a 4.8v nimh receiver pack. 3 - 12 volt rated.

Hi Captains,

Good to see you breathing some life into this forum. I gave up on the pumps and am now starting on passive cooling. My hope is that large tubes will increase flow even at lower speeds. I'll let you know how it goes. I hope to get a jump on the installation during the week.

okay, the little pumps like Rich had would squirt water about 4 feet at 9v. BUT both pump motor and battery were very warm after a minute. Current draw unknown but much too high. Following other forum, I ordered the Sensidyne micro air pump on e-bay. 6 - 12v 22oz per minute. Kmot uses them in different boat and likes ém. So I'll keep you posted. Once here, I'll hook em up simulating real application. Thanks Kmot!!

All righty then - heres the scoop on the little pump. It is the sensidyne micro air pump I purchased on e-bay. It is rated at 6 to 12 volts. I hooked it up to a 2000 mAh Nimh receiver pack (4.8v) with a 12 inch length of plastic hose from water to pump and 6 inches of hose plus Graupner cooling coil @ 5.8 inches if unwound. So approx 12 inches on either end. I let the pump run 70 minutes and it was going at that time. Water would shoot away from hull 1 1/2 inches. Not a jet stream but may be ideal for cooling. I also briefly tried a 9.6 volt Nimh pack and water discharge was smoother (pump pulses) but not significantly. I immediately charged 4.8v battery pack and it took a mere 247 mAh to recharge. Whilst running, pump and batt pack stayed at room temp. I'm impressed enough to go ahead with installation in my Dauntless. After installation, I will experiment with different configurations and voltages. Hooking it in parallel with ESC sounds interesting. Again thanks to Tom (Kmot) on Richs' site on RC Groups for the heads up on this little beauty. Forgot to mention it was self priming too.

Chuck & all...

Today I was able to work on Dauntless for the first time this week. I spent the day playing around with the boot stripe. Between pinstriping, fussing with the chine transition, taping the top and botton of the stripe and prepping the entire yacht for paint, it took all day.

I didn't take too many pictures with each step, but my wife took some pictures of me painting it this evening.

And here is a picture of the Lettering and a little of the grey deck! More to come soon!

Enjoy!

-Rich.
Very good work Rich I am new to RC univerce and also in the progress of building the Dumas Dauntless I sure wish I had found your supplyer to where you got your transfers made I have only just found your link today witch is to late as I had mine made elsewhere

Great looking lettering Darron. Any more pics? With those props and trim tabs, the boat must really fly across the water!

Mine is still in dry storage until Spring...
