dumas 48 inch pt 109
I have the kit and don't know which powering method to go with. I would like some speed and along run time. Any help would be appreciated

RE: dumas 48 inch pt 109
I have had good scale speed, and really long run times with this setup in a 48" boat:
Two Mabuchi 555SH motors
Two 1.75 inch 3-blade Dumas props
Two 6V sealed 7Ah lead acid batts wired in series to make 12V
I ran this setup with a servo & microswitches for forward/reverse. A speed control really wasn't necessary because the 555SH motors are not made for ballistic RPMs or huge amps.
With this setup I could run the boat around the pond for more than an hour without the motors heating up much, even with no water cooling! I never did run the batteries all the way out so I'm not sure of the run time but perhaps approaching 90-120 minutes?
As many have mentioned, you can go to the All Electronics Corp website and pickup many variations of the 550 type motors for $3.50 a piece. So experimenting with them is a cheap option too (it's nice to smoke a motor and just smile because it cost less than a DVD rental at Blockbuster!).
Hope this helps.

Thank you! I have just got the urge to start on the pt 109 again. Whats up with dumas? Are they going to abs instead of fiberglass?

Not very far. I started it in 1998 and got the deck put together but not attached. I wanted to use an os fs 61m but have not had any luck finding one so its been sitting. Then I was married and its been trough a couple of moves and the deck got cracked. Ihave contacted dumas and can get the parts cheep. Just now got the urge to start on it again after reading about the pt boat in new orleans. someday i will get done with it.

When did you check with Dumas on gettimg parts? In most cases once they stop producing a hull they no longer provide any parts for the kit. That is my problem I have the FG hull but I lost eveything else in hurricane IKE.
