WOWZER!![X(] The Huntsman is finally here guys! I was getting all worked up, wondering if I'd been ripped off. Then the doorbell rings, and the postman is there with this MONGO sized box from England! I gotts say, this is one BIG box of lumber too. It's not a lazer cut build, so would that mean it's "stamped"? There are 2 sheets of stamped clear plastic for windows. The only vacmue formed stuff I've seen so far is the air scoops for the sides. Then a ton of lumber! I also got 2, 14" driveshafts, and a rudder assy.. I wanted to build something now did'nt I?? Get ready for questions!! LOL Brian

From your photos this kit looks a lot like opening a Dumas kit. Do you detect any similarities????

Have'nt seen a Dumas kit in 20yrs Captain. About 20yrs ago I built a "Toms Cat" tunnel hull. Since then all the boats I've built in the past few years have been fiberglass catamaran hulls, with 25cc GAS engines. With the exception of my new Rigger, which is wood. This kit is mostly stamped 3/32" and 1/8" plywood, with a whole bundle of long strips in various sizes. This will definately be different. Brian

LOL T/G! Last nite I took all the lumber out of the bag, and checked er out.[:-] It don't look like it'll be too confusing to build, considering the directions are rather vague. P/R02, This is the 48" version, and it looks to be 15 or 16" wide. I'd like to go with a dual motor setup like the real Huntsman has. The instruction booklet devotes 2 1/2 pages to installation of nitro and gas engines, then gives you 4 sentences qaguely discribing electric power. I was told by Brian Hall from Anglia Model Centre that he's running a singlle 800 motor. So I guess my first question is, what motors should I get for this rig? I'd like them to be able to make this boat move out well, with reliability and long run times too. Then what props? Those will need to be counter rotating. Thanks, Brian

TUG, I just broke out the tape measure. The deck is 47 1/4" x 15 1/4". No idea on the scale. Don't know how big the origonal is. Looks about 30' tho. Hows about motors and props?? Ideas please? Brian

A local guy here in my club (also on RCU as u163665) has a Dumas Donzi that is 48" long, and is easily the equal of your Huntsman, I am sure. It is powered direct drive with two motors that are Johnson 700's and you can buy them from All Electronics for $3.50 a piece! This huge boat moves out! He runs it on two 6-cell packs. He has an Electronize esc (from England) but any heavy duty marine speedo would work. Such as the ones from Mtroniks and sold at Hobby People.

Most likely the reason your manual has all the info on IC and none on electric is because when the boat was first modeled back in the 50's or so electric motors were pretty much suck. They have come a long way.

Thanks Kmot! I have 1, of those 700's now! I could'nt resist the price, so I ordered 1 a while back when you gave me the link in my Teak Cruiser post. They sent thier catalog with it. Problem is, , What do I use for mounts? Did'nt see them in the catalog. Whats the Donzi guy using? And what props is he using too? Thanks, Brian

OK, I ordered another of the 700 motors from All Electronics. I even called them and asked about motor mounts. The guy said they don't carry anything. So I guess I'll have to get creative with a piece of 1/8" X 1 1/2" aluminum angle I got here. But I still need to know about props tho. Brian

Harbor models is a good place for props. They carry prop shop props among others.

Thanks TUG, Just got an email from Mark Hall @Anglia Model Centre. He suggested a couple 40mm "straight" props for starters. What the heck is a "straight" prop? Is that an unmodified prop? Prop Shop makes good props, I got a few for my GAS boats. Thanks, Brian

Did he suggest how many blades? You got the stuffing boxes and prop shafts in the kit is that right? What size diameter are the shafts? Just curious if they are metric or inch. You will need to match up to what ever size those shafts are. Straight props to me would be a standard pitch and not a racing pitch.

I agree about the pitch TUG. Got a slight problem tho. It seems they sent me a 14" long M4 shaft, and a 15" long M5 shaft![X(][X(] The M4 shaft is .157", and the M5 is .197" The shaft on the 700 Johnson motor I do have is 4mm. So it looks like I've got to email the boys back in England again, huh? LOL I'll ask about how many blades also. Brian

Looking all over these posts this morning one thing struck out at me. Why is there only one rudder if you have two prop shafts? I have always used a rudder for each prop is this something new or am I way off base?
