Some photos of the foam hull. Needs more sanding to get the shape perfect. Did a water test with 10 Lbs on top of the boat. NO Problem---Back to sanding
My plans for the boat

When you set up a boat like this, is the center of gravity at 30%?
I use to run airboats at 30% COG

Nice work with the hull, i am a 2nd yr naval architecture student and have had a couple of hulls cut out using cnc machines, pics bellow of models are about 450mm long, the foam hull is an attempt at a scale wally power 118, red boat is a 12m pilot boat. i drew up both hulls in a CAD program called maxsurf.

Way to go some_bloke02. GREAT to see scratch built boats. This is my first try at buillding a boat like this. I finished the top. Next step about 4 coats of Helmsman spar urethane and paint the bottom a dark red.

nice work, shes really coming along quite well, it will look nice when the clear coat goes on it.
those two of mine wont be powered by anything quite simply because they are too small.
i think i might end up drawing my own hull up and then cutting the frames out on a cnc machine like what i did with the red pilot boat. but instead of using plates for the hull i will plank it with mahogany. made a blue in an earlier post, the boat will be 60in not 50in.
good luck with the rest of it

nice work with the paint job. really looks quite gud.
interesting position for the water pick up. i think due to water flow around the stuffing box, your water pick up will only work at lower speeds, and once the boat is at speed it will be sitting in static water.
anyways nice work and keep at it

I purchased the Chris Craft cast metal Boat fittings. Should I sand the bottom of each fitting and then use super glue to glue them to the boat? I have Helmsman spar urethane on the boat now. Also on the steering wheel do you make your own steering column to glue to the dash of the boat? And how thick is the windshield on the boat? Last question do you paint the steering wheel and if so what color?

Mate i suggest you do sand the surface on which is to be glued, also sand the deck or surface on the boat where u will attach the fittings. with the steering wheel, u dont need to make a steering column to glue to, the wheel should bond to the dash, but what it comes down to is the level of detail u would like to put into the boat. if you want to make it look really scale and true to life then make up a steering column and the glue it in. as for the colour i would leave that to your discretion. i honestly cant tell you how thick the windscreen is. have attached some photos of steering wheels from a chris craft 19' racing runabout.
have fun with it

After about 15 coats of spar urethane, I think I'am done. The spar urethane yellowed the white stripes. Started glueing the boat fittings on. Having a problem with the windshield, it's at a slight angle(wants to tip over) I might have to make a small jig to hold it up, when I attach it to the hull.

nice job with the clear coat, she is really looking starting to look fabulous. in your photo it seems the windscreens would like to be more aerodynamic than required. but yeah a couple of skewers into the hull should do the trick.
have you got a name for it yet?
anyways keep at it
