Hi folks!

This is my first post ever in these forums, excited to be here.
I’m constructing the SKEG out the plywood provided by the
Dumas kit, so far so good, I got the plywood structure right up
and epoxied it to the hull, etc. But now I have the challenge of building the
side “walls” of the skeg, again out of plywood but don’t quite know
how to go about doing this, as it has some curves to contend with.
Can anybody shed some light, a good tip as to how to build the
Skeg side wall?

It's been awhile, my Darby is over twenty years old....

I believe that a couple clamps should allow you to bend the ply around the skeg. I think I built mine up and then mounted it to the hull.

If you don't have a cradle made to support the hull I think I'd make one now. The skeg and rudders will get beat up if the hull isn't up off the table.

I used some stuff made by SIG called Epoxolite "I believe" . CLEAN THE HULL with comet or some other cleaner to get all the mold release off or nothing will stick to the hull.

I used a piece of card board and a pencil and rolled the pencil along the bottom of the hull, cut the card board, rolled the pencil, cut the card board and so on and so on. It takes awhile but the card board will eventually fit the hull. Use the carb board as a pattern to make the cradle.

It's a nice model, you'll enjoy it and there is tons of room to add just about anything. A bow thruster....

I already have a craddle. But I'll usew the card stock idea to make a template of the side wall and then cut it off out of ply.

I've built three of these boats, and the best way I found was to do a 'mock-up' out of cardboard, and then build a "solid" skeg out of plywood, and epoxy it to the hull, and then fair it in. Mike
