Default Bunker Boat

Back in the 1950's Hobby Helper plans had full size plans of the 34" Bunker Boat.
Any help on finding them??

I have a 2 sheet plan of a seagoing bunker boat from MODEL BUILDER magazine. It's approximatly 35-36'' range, 11 frames. Looks to be from the 50's era. Also a 5 page instruction sheet. Any help ? Same boat? Roger

Jim,
I think the Model Builder plan is a repeat of the old American Modeler one
by Cal Smith. Very nice looking boat as well. You should be able to get it from
Bill Northrop who sells all the old Model Builder stuff (it WAS his magazine after all..)
I got a copy of the old Jersey Coast Dragger plans from him several years back.
He advertises in Flying Models Magazine.

mmmmmmmm ok Roger and Dave.....thanks guys.
Yes, I thought I remembered it in the old AM magazine. I built this boat back then and had a single channel Babcock radio and one of those wounderful DeBolt servos for the rudder. The one with all the gears and sounded like a farm thrashing machine.
I sold the boat and want to buld one again.
Will check with Bill Nothrop.
Thanks....Jim

MX240, If you're still after these plans I have them as Digital files in TIF & PDF formats you can have for free all you need to do is take a copy of the files to a copy shop and have it printed. they cost me $20AUD for the 2 sheets.
Anyone who'd like a copy send me a PM with your email address and whether TIF, PDF or both file types required and i'll send them.
I gave up on mine for now after having the frame finished ready for planking, my son accidentally knocked it to the floor & destroyed it.
Damien.

Loyalhanna Dockyard just picked up the assets of Hartman Fibereglass, who did a bigger version of the bunker boat from the same plans. The Hartman bunker boat includes the little workboats and some other parts in glass.
Also look up Rogers' "Building a Model Working Boat" from Schiffer, which features his version of a bunker boat.

Patmat,
Interesting reading about Hartman. I do business with Loyalhanna. Nice people to do business with.
I did not know Hartman made anything like a Bunker boat. I just remember a 12 meter?? that Hartman sold back in the sixites.
Could you give me a link to "Schiffer". I have never heard of that name.

Thanks Patmat,
For the link. Yes that is the same looking Bunker boat that I built back in the sixties and sold. I sure didn't know Hartman ever made a fiberglass model of it.
Thanks

So call up Don at LDY, and help me put the pressure on him to get some bunker boats out! Otherwise he's likely to do Hartman's old harbor tug first...

Hi Patmat,
I will do that. We need to put the pressure on him for a Bunker boat. Yes, a friend of mine way back in the fifties had one of those big ol'tugs on steam.
And I did order the book from Schiffer.
Thanks
Jim

The author, Rogers, has a series of books... he's a real artist, and likes to do old weathered workboats... static though! For the bunker boat, he used an odd strip-rib method to make the hull, but no matter... they can be built and finished any way you like. The book includes some drawings.

Patmat,
Good news for us Bunker Boat lovers. Don at http://www.loyalhannadockyard.com/MainPage.htm
said that this boat would be one of the first of three to be offered from the Hartman collection. I guess the estate threw out a lot of the documentation and they (Don) will have to replace.
I think I know what I will be doing this next cold winter down in my warm basement workshop.

MX240, I thought you old farmers went to bed when the sun went down! Good news about Don opening a new line. I do like that bunker boat. Nice. I also eyed a couple of those tugs too! Jim, drop me a email when Don gets those in.

Larry......Ha...When your wives discover your "retired" you go to bed with the chickens because of all the honey-do jobs they have saved up in forty three years of marriage.
You need a "Tugboat" to push that big Navy Destroyer up to the dock.
Wife and I plan to make the trip to your next float/sail day IF the weather is right.
Will keep you posted on the Hartman rebirth.

Fantastic! I wanted one way back when but just never got around to building one. Now I'll have a second chance. I just ordered the book from Schifferbooks. Thanks.

I just saw something about bunker boats and found this thread.

I built one from the Hobby Helpers plan in the 60's The plan and boat are long gone.

I would like to build another one.

Does anyone have a copy of the plan available?

Default Motor selection.

Folks, I have been reading this forum and looking at other people's work... Motivational... Is the best way to say it. Thank you ! I started my bunker project about 6 months ago and now I am looking for some guidance on voltage, motor size and prop. I keep hearing trial and error... Which I don't mind, ya can never have enough spare parts for future projects.
I had my plans increased at a print shop so the hull 36" o.a.l. plank on frame and plan on a 2 channel radio ( first rc boat )
Any tips or suggestions for the power / drive would be greatly appreciated.... I hope to have her wet next spring after the ice is gone
Thank you
