Harbor models Redondo tug kit
Has anyone built it or have any pictures of it? Next question. How is an abs hull compared to a fiberglass hull. Thanks

RE: Harbor models Redondo tug kit
Ships in Scale Magazine reviewed this kit in two parts part one is in the March /April edition
May-June 2008 is out!
Well, soon... the publisher says they had to make a correction to a plan set for the Golden Hind, delayed the subscribers' mailings until today. Probably at the hobby shops in a week or two?
What, your LHS doesn't carry it? Tell them to! They get it for free from the newstand distributor, Kalmbach, same as all the train mags... and only pay for what gets sold. No lose situation!
In this issue:
;
- Kurt van Dahm continues building the Harbor Models "Redondo" (and I think he's still fuming...)
- Alex Derry wraps up his build notes on his fantastic Canadian ferry "Trillium";
- And the usual nods to the stix'n'stringz crowd.

Not sure what Kurt's rant is about...
One should expect to do more work, and build up or buy more parts for
a model listed as a Semi Kit. Even then, for a semi kit, to provide exhaust
stacks and some fittings is a bit of a bonus. This type of a kit is for someone
that isn't ready to scratch build a hull or supersturcture but prepared to build
up everything else.
Also, Harbor models just dumped their hull manufacturer for new shop.
Apparentely their original manufacturer dropped the ball(hard) on their production quality.
It would be a good Idea to verify availablity on all Harbor Model kits prior to ordering.
The new manufacture and the new tooling may not be ready for production.
But once they are, the quality will be top notch.

RE: Harbor models Redondo tug kit
Umi,
Yes, the production shop for HM dropped the ball big time. I ordered a Pacific Escort (Foss Maritime) tug kit from them a few months ago. It showed up in the mail and much to my surprise the rear of the wheel house had been cut off! I contacted Harbor Models and they said that all the rest of them kits had the same defect and they weren't going to reisssue the kit. They said it was a problem with the production house. They offered me a store credit which I guess is fair compensation. Still, I would have rather had the entire kit not have such a glaring defect. So, I certainly do hope that they get the problems straightened around. I have built a few of their kits and have always found them to be pretty good in the past.
