Suggestions for scale model boating
Hello,
I have recently been finishing up a Crabber/Longliner vessel f/v Amatuli ,and am in need of some knowledge. Can anyone refer me to what is the best, but cheap servos, rudder and controller for my boat. I have motors and props. Also a shaft, but i need to modify. Is the flexible shaft o.k?
Any one have any suggestions,

Bring it out to Tualatin Saturday, Lets have a look at it.
Tualatin Crawfish Festival/ Portland Regatta.... Tualatin Commons, SW Seneca and Boonesferry road
6-10 rc model clubs will be represented across the west coast , Idaho, and Vancouver BC.
I or any number of modelers would be glad to dispense some advice.[8D]
As for servos, you should be able to pick up some $10 servos at the local hobby shop.
With out a picture of your configuration, it would be difficult to recommend a shaft type.

RE: Suggestions for scale model boating
Hi.
Id love to come to Tualatin... Only im in Alaska now. I need to edit my account! Sorry. Ill checkout some of the hobby shops and see. The Amatuli is a flat bottom, thats why i was wondering on a flexible shaft. Its flat and the back tappers up to the stern, so there is room for a prop. Also what voltage would you recommend for batteries?
Thanks for your help!

Sounds like a flex shaft might work for you.
Is the hull barge or push hull like? A picture might help if you can post one.
There is a drawing of a push boat on Toeboat Joe's website, and how shafts are typically run...
http://www.towboatjoe.com/towboat_info.htm
I typically use solid shafts and stuffing tubes.
Most of my boats run on 12 volts. But this also may depend on
the type of motor you are using.
Below is my Japanese LST T-103.

RE: Suggestions for scale model boating
Yes the hull is box like and flat. It tapers up from the bottom to the back. I got my motors from a r/c sports car amphibian. It had 2 very nice motors and power props with shafts. The shaft inter graded with the inside of the car body so it will be difficult to make work for my boat. unless i can get a coupler to connect it all together. They are nice though... Thats why i thought of flex shaft so i wouldnt have to deal with the hassle.12 volt is the battery pack i have that came with the car. I just dont want short battery life. Also i want to keep the speed down for scale and also have lots of power for big swells. I like to sail in rough water! :")
Thanks for the great input. Nice boat!
Ill post my pics soon.

You can get u-joints to connect motor to shaft inside the boat.

I build my own stuffing tubes....
