RE: Vietnam Monitor build
Did you get any further?
Have you come up with a way to make the siderails? If your library has one of two books they will have good line drawings of the boats we used.
U.S. Small combatants or Janes Fighting Ships 1971-72
now that the heat has broken I am going to go back to work on mine
I will ask again are you ever this way SE Alabama? If you do I can show you better plans
and be able to break down sections and explain them.
Thanks Paul

RE: Vietnam Monitor build
I got a little side tracted, found a job at Sears, in the tool dept. I have done some more work on the boat. Things don't go as smooth as a kit boat does. I have not figured out what to make the side rails out of yet, brass maby, but I might need 100' more or less, so I am wanting to find something not to expensive, some game or object at the dollar store that has 1/16th plastic rods?? I will have to look around. When I get the chance I will take some pictures. Randy.

I have been to Alabama, but only on I-10 and on the USS Alabama. If I ever go that way I will contact you first, here are some pictures.

http://www.towerhobbies.com/plastic/...upplies.htmlis one source you may want to look at plastic
wood skewers for cooking might be the right size also either a craft store or lumber shop might carry the 1/16 dowel
the other placewould be a electric supply and get alumimum.

Sorry to not reply sooner. I have been side tracted by other things. I will look into the plastic or aluminum. I don't want to use wood because of the water proofing needed, but I might. Thanks for the aluminum idea.

RE: Vietnam Monitor build
glad to hear from you- I understand the being busy- here health problems and kids stuff
going to sell this house then move back to Florida by June at the latest- that way the kids can just change schools during the summer break- going down to the Ft Myers area. My wife is from that area and has family there. I lived there over 30 years, so we both know the area real well.
when there I will begin making more large models and other wood projects. maybe we can get together then. I am working on rc turrents for my large boat. they are 10 inches in diameter ,so not much on the market that size. The intent is that I will either build a large shop or buy one that is large enought for say 3 cars to fit inside..

If Ft Meyers has changed, look at Vero Beach, on the east coast. The housing market is way down, the over all crime rate is low in the area, but the job market is bad, about seventeen percent.
