Is this boat worth fixing up?

I will post pictures later but post a question now. I love old ChrisCrafts but im into RC Aircraft so I would sell to fund that. I was given a boat from a guy at work. I did some looking and its a 1950's ChrisCraft Sedan. It looked in rough shape till I cleaned it off. It is what i would call Garafge Sale condition. It looks solid but was built by someone without an eye for detail. It was not sanded before stain and varnish. It's wood is not warped that I can tell. The hardware appears to be all there but it is un plated or painted. So it will need to be stripped down and re stained and painted. It's going to be a task. I think it maybe Dumas. It will never be cherry since its assembled. Could I get a couple hundred for it with a half decent paint/varnish job?

Ask the question at RCGroups and you might find someone who will buy it as is. Got to post pictures of course.

You're asking a very subjective question. Which is all the more difficult to answer with out actually being able to see the boat in question.

Reading your post I get the impression that you don't really want to fix it, you want to sell it. Please tell me if I'm wrong.

Could you get a couple hundred out of it as is? Maybe, if it came with running hardware, motor, Electronic Speed Control, receiver and transmitter. Then I would have to say most likely. Especially if you test it, and can verify that all the parts work correctly.

For just the boat itself, not very likely. Whoever buys it will have quite a project in refurbishment, repair, replace, refinish.

The last boat similar to what you are talking I paid $150 complete with motor and radio gear, I had to furnish a battery. The boat needed a lot of work, still does because I'm not finished with it. You definitely need to show some pictures.

Finaly got around to taking pictures. Shes 29" long, BTW. The hardware feels heavy, like lead. I really dont want this project but if it will bring some cash I dont mind.

Thanks for the info! I think I will sell it as-is or put it in my friends bar.

The long and the short of it is I see a lot of rework there.  It appears solid enough but . . .

Do you happen to still have the plans or instruction booklet?

I don't have tha plans or instructions. It was found in a crawl space and given to me. I'm not going to fix it up anyway.

So, are you going to put it on fleabay or put it on the "Buy & Sell" here on RCUniverse?

I don't know. I guessing I could put it up here for sale. I'll do it tonight.

What kind of price would you offer? You if it were up for sale? Keep in mind I would charge shipping if not picked up.

It's not worth a whole lot in it's current condition BUT it would be worth it for someone that has a soft-spot for such a boat to acquire it and make it nice...I know this didn't answer the question...I usually like to aim higher with boats but it is just painted wood and needs to be glassed, resined and all the 'hard work' done that was obviously skipped here. This alone takes away big points from most of it's potential value. It is also cracked on the end of the cabin so the new owner can't just varnish the sides to make it pretty.

I think $40would be a fair price for it.
