RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless
Hey Dauntlessfan,
I bought two more pumps. They happen to be the pumpthat's onthe top of your list. I like the idea that I can actually see the the motor can because I can monitor the temps or even water coolthem . Also, I agree and conclude that windshield washer pumps are no good for continuous running. We need pumps that can keep on going for long periods of time. With this said I may entertain watercooling them rightfrom the tap. Also, I got an e-mail from offshore electrics that my 800 sized water jackets are in so I placed that order too. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I can resumeon the watercooling system. This is trial & error because I haven't seen many people that had an electronic cooling system in their boat. -Rich. |
RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless
generally speaking....
I noticed something about the lines on the Dauntless but I couldn't prove it until yesterday. Note on the side profile starting on the bridge shelter that the end of the shelter sideflows downward. Then, after the aft bridge deck it flows down again. Past that, just after the owners cabin it does it again in the cockpit area. Then, after the cockpit it flows down at the stern. When the water was streaming out of the transom guess what? they streamed the same exact way as the rest of the side profile. Ibelieve the side profile was designed to look like streaming water. It made perfect sense when the pumps were on. I think the reason why the wet exhaust was located so high up was to finish the profile designusing water. The water steamed out about 4-6" before it flowed down to the water. It looked perfect when following the lines of the boat. :) -Rich. |

Calm down there big fella! http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gifhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gifTake a look. The engine water pump on the big guys don't sent out so much pressure as to have a 8' stream of water. It is a function in our scale even without a pump. I just added water cooling to the Baron and it comes out the side in a 6" arc without a pump.
Are you going to Queens Sunday? Bill |

Re water pumps. Have you looked at the water pumps that the "Water Cooled PC" crowd are using? These move a lot more water than the smaller washer type pumps will, and are designed for continuous operation. For example: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/14...c107s153#blank One of these would be all that you need. The link shows a complete pump. The pump body and the pump itself. Scroll down a little and you can see the list of available fittings. You would need a couple of hose barb fittings at the least. |

RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless
DS I think the Dumas radar mast was too tall as compared to the original. I cut mine down quite a bit in an effort to match Big D's profile. Rich/Bill do you know about how tall it should be in inches?

Hi Captains,
Yesterday Offshore Electrics delivered some of my watercooling goodies so this weekend the waterjackets will be installed on the Astroflight 25's. When I do that I am going to remove the 4 giant underwater scoops along with the Mercedes pumps. I don't think I ever posted pictures of the scoopsbut just as well because they won't be missed. On Sunday I am going to introduce the boat to Bill and the boat club for what is supposed to be the final club run of the season.I am expecting the first pair of new pumps to arrive any day now & the 2nd pair should be sometime next week. -Rich. |

DS - Here are some reference lines drawn for the radar mast to hopefully show the height of the unit as it was on Big D.
Highest blue line is the plain where the actual radar unit was mounted. Below that is the mast platform. Circled in red is the wind speed meter placed forward on that platform. If you want to add this detail, make sure it'll fit. Next down is a roofline reference, then below that is the main deck line. |

This weekend I abandoned the incorrect forward cockpit 'place holder' I've had on my Dauntless, and modeled the yacht's actual seating area.
How cool it must have been to sit in this spot while underway! Pics of my progress to follow. |
RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless
Hey Dauntlessfan,
Funny you posted that I just installed the seat over the weekend. The other night I did some work on the Dauntless to get it ready for a club run on Sunday. The large underwater were removed and some of the furniture that I have been hoarding was installed inside the boat. On Sunday it was very windy but I still ran the boat for the handful of guys that made it to the pond. We had a few sailboats in the water that were getting blown over because of the hectic wind gusts. The Dauntless on the otherhand proved to be awesome because of the independant throttles and power. I had complete control over the boat. With the scoops removed the boat ran even better than before! Everyone that seen the boat was impressed with it. -Rich. |

Hi Rich - last time I took mine out it was exceptionally windy like that. I left the canvas roof piece on shore because I thought maybe the wind might catch it and blow it off[X(].
Okay so here's pics of the conversion of my forward cockpit. Was much easier than I thought because I just repurposed the existing piece I made long ago from balsa and had already fiberglassed it for strength and waterproofing... |
