RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless
Hi Bill - I was using a single EVX for many years when I had tame Mabuchi 555 motors. But once I upgraded to the 700 motors, one EVX couldn't handle it and died.
DS - On Big Dauntless those seats folded out of the way as needed, so that would be cool to add to your model as well! Rich - Awesome pics, she's a beauty on the water. And who knew Dauntless would make such a cool looking monster truck in that first pic :D! |

RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless
DeepSky - yes those Dumas dog bones will get chewed up like... well... a dog with a tasty bone. Go to the Harbor Models website and order from their selection of couplers instead.

Hi Deepsky,
The Dauntless above once had a buy it now price that was outragous. It seems like the owner decided to be more realistic on his starting price. -Rich. |

RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless
Hi Bill,
I took the week off from work so I won't be in the area for a run. When I ran the boat this last time I found out that itwas the prop shafts that need regreasing..Hopefully I will have that squared away in the next few days. Now that I have the week off I am remodelling our bedroom...there's always something on the honey do list. Our room looks like granny's craftroom with all the old floral wallpaper & such. Its the final frontier in our home that needs a makeover.....It's time to bring itto modern standards.. :) -Rich. |

RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless
Catching the issue was not very simple. A while back when I was removing a part of the rear keel It split away from the hull causing the glass to crack which resulted in a leak under the owners cabin. I since sealed it but I was worried that it came from there. -Rich. |

What did the grumpy old man say at the park when he asked about oilites? http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...wink_smile.gif

RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless
yep you were right. Today I dropped the shafts and regreased them. This should do the trick for a little bit. Now I need to finish up those water wells I started making for the shafts.
I also removed the sound module and got it ready to go back to Canada. -Rich. |
RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless
Just finished the running gear on Sandy B and will get her wet after lunch in Pound Ridge. Lessen learned. I have baid aids and blood all over the place from fitting motor mounts and tightening screws in such tight quarters. When doing a smaller craft do it all before planking or make the entire cabin removable!
Still not very confident with the only coupler I could find with 3 mm for that little 440 motor. Folly will be standing by. Bill |
RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless
Good luck on the run and let us know how she ran.
I've also donated lots of blood to this hobby of ours. ;) -Rich. |
RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless
She ran very well............................for awhile. Then the motor started smokin so I ended the run. I think she could do with a smaller prop and one that is reversed direction. The motor runs faster in the opposite rotation due to timing I would guess. I have a smaller prop but same rotation.

Hey Bill funny you should mention running hardware access, I'm scratch-building a different project and pondering the subject right now. Luckily I mounted the motors before planking and incorporated large access hatches for the motors as I planked that area. The real boat I'm modeling had big engine access doors so I got lucky there. Now I have to figure out how to keep access to the aft steering servo and rudder linkages...
Dauntless is nice in that nearly the entire hull is accessable and nothing's sealed off. |
RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless
yeah DF you have to plan ahead for sure. On the boat I was talking about the cabin roof comes off for access to motor and electronics but not much room for big mitts on a 22" boat.
I usually make an oversized hatch for rudder servo and linkage access. On this one I had to use a micro servo because of space. What is the boat you are building? Bill |

Rich & Bill - She is a Vietnam-era Swift Boat. I'd like to do a "build thread" here or at RCgroups, any recommendations are welcome...

|
RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless
Hey DS looking really good! The round screen on my radar unit was pretty simple - I carefully cut the bottom off of a small clear plastic cylinder I found at the dollar store. It was in the craft section and held glitter. A pack of four cost me a buck ;).
