RE: nikko seawolf
Thanks pl_09 for clearing upebayand confirming the tuner tip at the transmitter. Greatly appreciate your follow up.
These were terrific RTR toys for the investment.
Would you offeradvice on voltage settings for the 'pots' in the transmitter and receiver? As inshould they match each other? I'm still learningR/C basics.
BTW,I'm a Buffalo NY native and misstraveling theProvince of Ontario and the hospitality while on business.
Good luck on your sub conversion project. Remain Undetected. Kind Regards

No such thing as matching the voltage. Tune for maximum field response, in other words trial & error to maximize it. However most of these cheap toys break down with more serious trouble than just out of tune. If you like it so much, you might like to find a 3 channel toy & exchange the RC system. The cheap Walmart Ohio class sub may be a good candidate except its range is rather inferior. Good luck again .

Just received my Nikko sub. Its in fair condition. Could use a bit of TLC. Whats the best way to clean corrosion caused by batteries left in the transmitter?
Thanks...
Thanks...

RE: nikko seawolf
Few more questions if you guys dont mind.
* The sub has a built in charge jack. Did Nikko include a charger with the sub? If not, does anybody know what charger it uses and where can I pick one up?
* Does anybody know where I can pick up the gray rubber cover? Mine is still good, but thought I'd pick up another one for a spare.
* Where get I get a copy of the manual?
* Need a stand for the sub.
That should be it for now......
Thanks guys......

RE: nikko seawolf
hi, it's best to use a separate charger for your batteries. don't put your sub at risk. As for the rubber, it's not advisable to get one for spare cause it will vulcanise over time. No point in keeping one. The sub has been out of production already. I know it for a fact cause i know someone who bought the last remaining stocks and they have it on sale btw. Not that i'm doing a sales pitch . as for the stand, no help there... try making one..

RE: nikko seawolf
Remote,
The original charger (which I still have) was a trickle-only type that put out a whopping 200 mA (and, interestingly, the label also specifies an output of 9 volts). It would charge a set of 1980s NiCd batteries overnight (8-12 hours), but it would take far longer to charge any modern capacity battery (2500 to 5000 mA). Plus there is no cutoff or other battery protection. But hey, it was state of the art back then.
If I ever get NiMH C cells for my Nikko sub, I am considering making an attachment for my Tenergy charger with the proper plug so that I can charge up the batteries while still in the sub as before.
I no longer have my manual. As noted, the seals are no longer available from Nikko. My only suggestion is to keep yours out of the heat as my first replacement one got warped. I am sure you can make a decent stand - try using PVC, it is cheap and waterproof.
Good luck with your sub! Greg

kenfleang,
Thanks, I'll keep you in mind. The only thing I really need is the stand, (LMK if you have one.) but will make one if need be. Let us know when you have the time to scan the manual, that would be GREAT.
Thanks again....

RE: nikko seawolf
I sorta fancy one of these Seawolves if they are available in the UK - but what frequency are they on? 27 or 40 mHz is OK here apart from the new 2.4GHz which I understand is rubbish for underwater craft. I could change the RX and stuff to suit but that's more expense and often easier said than done with prebuilt production models. Thanks Guys.

All of the ones I am aware of are on 27 MHz, with several different bands available (I think 6). I also think that some later models had interchangeable crystals. These subs have a proprietary "all-in-one" electronics boards so it would not be easy to change out the RX.
It is a fun RTR sub. But keep in mind that there are no more spare parts available, at least from Nikko.

Thanks Guys - I appreciate your replies. Sounds like the sub is now out of production - shame really 'cos it seems to be a popular model.

The Nikko Sub had a good production run from 1986 to late 2009 when production ceased. That's more than twenty years with no change in the sub's hull design only one (1) known upgrade in the electronics circuit board (inside the sub). The electronics update was likely introduced in the mid 90's. I have an original 80's Nikko sub called "Ocean explorer" and a mid 90's Nikko sub called the "Sea Wolf". The circuit board inside these two subs are not the same.

RE: nikko seawolf
I'm looking for parts for the Sea Star that I got for Christmas back in the late 80's. My mom just found it in the attic and gave it to me in a plastic bag, would love to get it running again. From what I can tell I need a new rubber cover for the battery compartment as the one that is on it is cracking. I also need the little container that hangs under the back that you put the weights in to balance it, as well as weights for it (this I lost back when I was a child and had the sub in my bicycle newspaper rack carrying it home from the pond). Please if anyone has any leads on these 2 parts I'd love to get this running again to let my son play with.

You can try the Nikko calling customer support here in the USA. I got my rubber compartment covers from them a few years back to keep my two Nikko submarines operational. Your other option is to find one of ebay. I see used Nikko subs with intact parts on sale every now and then.
