Just bought a seawolf. Moster size compared to walmart sub. Anyone else own this sub. Looking for cool mods like with the walmart submarine. Also looking to expand depth of submarine in my 6 foot pool.

Seawolf is a nice looking sub. the sub is fast and propellor shift right or left to move directions. Hard to keep submerged. Handles better than the walmart sub but hard to keep submerged. sub can only go about 3 feet under befor signal lost and comes to surface. Never captianed a sub besides walmart sub so hard to tell how good it is.

My little Tub-Sub (about 1 inch long) gets to about 2 foot depth, try dipping the top of the aeril into the water.

Ive used a nikko seawolf before it performs pritty well, very well actually, exept it wont go very deep.

I would buy one of them but living in inner London it'd be a bit hard to run it anywere apart from the pond in the park and also they look hard to mod,[sm=surprised.gif]

maybe you could stick a couple of pennys or coins inside it to slightly decrease the bouyancy but not too much!

The problem of the nikko seawolf is that when de antena is submerged it lost the tranmition, i don't know why.
I read somewhere that is because de antenna gets wet maybe try to seal it in the upper part.
But why when the antena of walmart sub's is submerged it works and nikko seawolf not

P.D. I have a seawolf too and it's size is cool, i'm trying to find a static model that fits in , it will be very cool,like a dress

nope it has absolutely nothing to do with the antenna getting wet,
the signals from the transmitter is in the form of Radiation and the water resists it in the exact same way it does with visable light
if you swim under water you will figure out that you cant see very far. but when you surface you can see for many miles because air doesnt stop much radiation- exactly the same thing that happens with your transmitter

I got one here myself. This one is the "civilian" version of the Nikko Seawolf, this one's called the Ocean Explorer and first came out in 1983. I aquired this sub from an Estate sale & it's condition then was unknown (no battries to test it) .

This sub uses 6 standard "C" batteries (NiCd or Ni Mh recharegeables recommended) & 10 AA batteries. (6 batteries for the transmitter & 4 for the sub's receiver)

This Nikko Ocean Explorer was D.O.A. when I finally got to test it at home with the batteries installed. None of the 3 drive motors worked. I took this sub apart & found out the receiver-electronics board had corrosion.

I was'nt surprised, this is after all a 21 year old sub!
I cleaned up the electronics board & the corrosion that was there was fortunately only superficial. This sub's circuit board is protected by thin layer of anti-moisture parrafin like wax.

As for the sub's motors, the motorshafts were frozen in place due to 21years of accumulated moisture. The motor casings were brown in color due to corrosion. I managed to remove the corrosion from the sub's motors and got all 3 motors working again.

Yup, this sub turns faster than the Wally sub. It also dives faster ( probably due to it's weight in batteries )
You may want to try adding more lead weights to reduce this sub's excess positive bouyancy & give it a residual bouyancy thereby making it rise to the surface slowly when it's not moving.

Photo#1 is a view of the sub's bow with the floatation ball for balancing the sub's bouyancy.

Photo#2 is a view of the sub's steering system & receiver antenna port. This sub uses a magnetic clutch drive system. Not stuffing boxes to maintain or leak. Very simple & straightforward design.

Photo#3 is a full view of this sub's streeing system. It's similar to a large tiller you see in small boats with outboard motors.

Photo#4 is a view of this sub's "on-off" switch. This switch has a small but powerful magnet that activates the sealed waterproof contacts inside the sub's WTC.

Photo#1 is another view of the sub's steering system. The magnet is visible in it's black ABS plastic housing.

Photo#2 is the the sub's prop/drive system. This prop can be replaced with a slightly larger (clockwise rotation) aftermarket prop to gain extra speed. The closest prop I can think of right now is that Traxxxas prop I used in my Wally sub modification, but that prop's rotation is counterclockwise.

Photo#3 is the sub's prop gear drive system. This is a 1:1 ratio, so that is equal to direct drive with a lot of torque due to the diameter of the gears. No need to lubricate these gears, they are exposed to water when the sub is submerged.

Photo#4 is the sub's magnetic clutch drive system. The area is sealed off from the sub's WTC. The shaft drive incorporates a magnet that is held in place by an equally powerful magnet inside the sub's WTC.

Hi, I finished my two weeks holidays and I have some cool pics and a video of the seawolf(mine's called sea star).

I have my submarine down to 2 meters(How many foot is this?) But at this depth if you lose the control you have to swim, because it loses it's positive bouyancy¿[X(]?

They are big. Enjoy it.

never seen that nikko sub before. do you have walmart in spain? Im sure Sam Walton used to own some part of spain.

Photo# 1 is the front view of this sub's WTC. I used a "C" size battery to give other here an idea on how large this sub's interior is.

Photo#2 is another view of the sub's WTC. Note: the sub's serial number is found at the lower-front part of the WTC. In the back is the opening for the sub's magnetic clutch drive system for diving.

Photo#3 When you aquire a vintage submarine it is a good idea to look over the sub's entire WTC/hull for cracks before you take them out for dives. I spotted this crack on the top of the WTC near the magnet assited on-off switch. This crack can be repaired using CA glue.

Photo #4 Check this area for micro cracks. I found one in my other Nikko submarine. Check the antenna rubber plug for cracks.

Photo #1 This is the sub's DIVE motor. It's a Mabuchi 280 motor as far as I can tell. This motor is directly below that crack I spotted in the WTC photo in my previous post. The motor's casing is rusted, the motor shaft was frozen in place but fortunately worked free after treating this motor to a few shots of WD-40.

Photo #2 Is the sub's magnet assisted ON-OFF power switch on top of the sub's steering servo assembly.

Photo #3 This is the sub's propulsion motor. This motor is even smaller than the sub's Mabuchi 280 dive motor. It was also rusted & the motor shaft was frozen in place like the dive motor. I got this motor working again after giving it a few shots of WD-40.

I see in the photos that you haven't ring type weights, you can see what I say in my first photo. I needed one two or three to have the submarine correctly balanced. And the correctly depth is indicated by a front and rear red marker line on the sides of the submarine, and only the tower is out of the water. If you want I can upload the manual.

And as I see it, this sub(at least my sub) isn't hard to stay submerged
