Default Sheerline Akula Battery Questions

Hello,

I have a Sheerline Akula that I got a while ago. I think I left the battery discharged for too long and now the battery doesn't last too long (maybe 5 minutes). So, I need to get a new battery.

My first question is:

Does anyone know what Chris Cloke (owner of Sheerline) puts on the positive terminal to cover it up? I have a picture of it here:

If I buy a new battery I'll need to duplicate what he did.

Also, anyone know of a good place online to get a new battery (I'm in the USA)?

Thanks in advance!

That is just anti-corrsive spray.

Can you be a little more specific about the spray? Where can I get it? And what is the little white plastic ring? Is that just a piece of PVC?

Thanks!

you can pick that up at any auto supply store. It is just battery terminal anti-corrosive spray.
not to sure about the ring, probably the terminal clamp that the wire attaches to.

Hi,

I don't have an Akula but I do own an Ohio made by Sheerline. The terminals are covered in a rubber cover and then further covered by silicone sealer. You need only worry about the + terminal, the negative one is what you plug and unplug. As for batteries, I go to radioshack.com and get everything. You may have to look around but they do have them. If not there try cheapbatteries.com Either one should get what you need.

Do yourself a favour, ring chris, he's a nice bloke & will happily supply you with a replacement, complete with leads seals etc.

Failing that, solder your + wire onto the terminal, superglue a piece of plastic tube over the top with the wire coming out of a notch in the bottom, fill up with silicon. let set for a couple of days, job done.

Oh yes, & then check your trim, batteries can differ in weight!

If you've got the roon under the WTC, you could also try this mod'

Thanks for the Reply. Yeah, I know Chris is great. I've talked to him quite a few times in the past. The problem is that the only way to contact him is via phone/fax and that's tough for me (in the US) with my work schedule.

I ended up getting two batteries on ebay for $20. By the time the batteries came my old battery seems to have gotten new life (after cycling it a few more times). Good news is that my new batteries are the same size a weight as the old one. So now, I'll have 3 (after I solder the new ones).

And thanks for the link to the mod!

Regards
