Twice the size of an Abrams, but it will still go through those pesky euro tunnels. LOL I don't know why it did that.

Looks like snow to me as well. What is the temperature though. I see green leaves on the bushes still.

I run my tanks n the snow a lot, but the Tiger is the worst of the lot for packing in snow. I guess you are experiencing this first hand as well. -7C I would have thought was cold enough to not have too many issues but Surrey is humid, so I guess not quite cold enough for you.

RE: Tanks in snow...
Last winter we had fun running our tanks on an offroad track with snow falling.
I had a just built Panther G with a DBC-RC2HL in winter camouflage and everything was perfect. Plastic tracks, 5:1 gearboxes.
Another time I run my HL tiger with metal Kenny Kong tracks on frozen snow (it was -11°C) and it run fine too.
Here they are two videos about the Panther G

RE: Tanks in snow...
It was bitter cold, but I wentoutside anyway for an early AM tank fun run.
The most difficult part of the run was having to wait for my wonderful wife to drive off, before I could launch an attack through her flower garden, which is the best part of any run!
And my sincerest condolences to all the winter weather people.
John

Good to see your Panther again, Borealis. Still one of the best winter whitewash schemes I've seen, with excellent subtle weathering. Any chance of a post of close detail stills of your Panther?
Thanks,
Mike.

RE: Tanks in snow...
For me snow equals frozen water. Tanks have lots of holes in them for the snow to get in and melt. They also have lots of electrics low down. Water+electrics=disaster. No snow driving for me!

Metal foil duct tape over those peskey holes will keep that scarry snow out. You can paint it, and it peals off, if you need to access any covered hole. The stug has huge holes where the tracks are, so without the duct tape it would pack snow around the main board and perhaps cause problems. Tou can get the tape at any hardware store. The foil stuff is great cause it looks like metal in the way it bends and paints. Any paint scrapes look like fresh metal.
Here is a vid of my stug in action in the snow. Note the different snow conditions it goes through.

All this was shot with stock metal gears, she has 3:1's now.

RE: Tanks in snow...
just got in with my Tiger I (shoulda took a video)
performance was above what I was expecting in the snow
It stayed on top of the snow for the most part, and only got stuck 2 times in the 10 minutes I had it out. one time it hit a rock that was buried and the threads dug in, other I was trying to climb up some concrete and it looked like less of a drop than it really was(looked like a inch was around 4 inches deep).
only came in cause my hands were going numb(below 0 will do that fast)
I ripped the mud guards off the rear seeing the one loves to fall off no matter what I do.
I was kinda shocked barely any snow stuck to it, only a teeny bit around the power switch that I blew off easily
Glad I took the advice and let the tank sit in the cold for an hour or so before use
Next time I'll try and get a vid (and buy gloves so I can stay out longer )

RE: Tanks in snow...
We got almost two feet of snow last night and today, so I figured I could get some good pics and maybe even some video of my Tiger running in snow. I thought I had my track kicking problem solved by spacing out my idlers, but after about three feet of running I kicked my right track. SO I only got a couple of pics. I tried to age the photos so I have originals and edited versions:

No snow in Phoenix to play in. The last time I recall any snow accumulation here was in November 1996.. A dusting basically and it completely melted away within less than 24 hours.

The giant pix are OK, that Tiger looks great in the snow! The mud and snow mix is so very real looking, wonder why, and completes the picture nicely. Thanks for not cleaning it between campains. Vids please...
Celabrate the glory and the agony of moving tanks overland in snow!
It takes real snow to do what we do!

RE: Tanks in snow...
If I don't get my track binding and kicking problem sorted out real quick, I am sending my Tiger in for a re-fit and will run my Jagdpanther for a while. It's too bad really but an all steel model tank has the same problems (if not more) as the real thing. As for the snow... it's crazy. I have shoveled my drive-way three times today.

My tiger always throws tracks, especialy in snow. My Jagdpanther has never thrown a track, so you may have more luck with it.
That whitewash looks great!
My simpathy about the driveway, I pile the snow up into tank hills for later, makes the work more fun. Looks like my backyard after a good one.

I can see the joy your getting cutting fresh tracks. Now that you have that cool indoor battlefield don't forget to go out and cut some fresh ones now and then. Tank tracks in the yard make the neighbors wonder.
