Default World of Tanks - online game

Anyone here play this online game? It is kind of off-topic, but not really. It's what got me looking at this forum, and what got me interested in buying an RC Tank. It also got me familiar with the tanks on sight. Before I started playing, I couldn't tell the difference between a Panther and a Tiger II.

Just curious if any of you are online, and if I ever see you on the servers.

I am currently playing in a US T29 and T32 with 105mm and having a lot of fun. The speed of the US heavy tanks is nothing short of disheartening.

I think the current release of that i a closed beta? So it might be hard to sign up.

Plus the game is definitely only online - it gets most of its data from a server. Its a bit hard to stomach having to pay whacks to get whacked by some youngster in an unrealistic tank?

But the tank models are great

I've been playing for quite sometime now and have enjoyed it thoroughly. They are still taking Beta testers and I believe Open Beta is scheduled for sometime next week. I enjoy it but, you'll need to look past some of the historical inaccuracies. Developers are working hard and I think it will be a great Tank Game as it matures.

Apply for a Closed beta key - http://game.worldoftanks.com/registration/cbt/

I think there are currently 2 different scenarios: (perhaps someone knows the answer)
1. There is a Russian Server that is already open, and it is pay to play?
2. And there is the Closed Beta, which is free because you are testing the game for the developers. But I think it is nearing completion of the testing phase and they are not accepting new testers at this point due to it going "live" in Feb possibly. At that point, all progress of the testers will be erased, and you will start from scratch and have to pay for premiums. I believe you will be able to play for free, but you will advance slowly, without the added value of gold which you purchase with real $$$.

I don't know what the cost will be, but it is one of the only online, multiplayer games I have ever really enjoyed. As long as they continue to develop maps i would pay $10-15/month to play it for a few months.

Leisure,
I believe you are correct.

1) Russian server is live and online

2) US & EU servers just split in preparation for a live release. As Beta testers, I read that we might get "thank you" in the form of a Premium Tank or keep our Exp. Either way, I enjoy the game. I think your in the ballpark with the monthly fee as well.

Launch date for the official open beta - January 27th, 2011

Gold is currently 2500 for $10USD on RU server. It is assumed it will be similar for US/EU

How do you get to be in a combat situation with a T-29 or T-32? None were ever accepted or issued and the heavies were dropped in 1945, except for the T-30 to develop the AV-1790 engine and T-34 which developed the 120mm gun. .

Since it is a game, I understand the need to take certain liberties.
Russia, US, and German tanks get 10 tiers each.
The US order of progression is:

Tier I - T1 - 37mm
Tier II - T2 - 37mm
Tier III - M2 - 75mm
Tier IV - M3 75mm
Tier V - T1 76mm
Tier VI - M6 90mm
Tier VII - T29 105mm
Tier VII - T32 105mm
Tier IX - T34 120mm
Tier X - T30 155mm

amor thickness and Hit Points improve with each tier
I assume they just needed 10 levels of tanks and had to use the T1 and T29 and T32.

I did play but the game is too infuriating to play for longer.

It is basically a skilless turkey shoot, I believe is the American phrase. Unfortunately the many flaws in the game, such as the spotting system, are likely to be there when the game goes gold. The balance between the factions is biased towards Russian armour.

The US tech tree is almost entirely made up of paper panzers and the German tree as well. Match balance is improving, although most of the time, if you use a light or medium tank you will be placed in a match against armour that will one shot you from a great distance, at least it might be, since you can't see more than a few hundred feet you never know!

I would not recommend this game, although I would really like to as there is not exactly a lot of games out there that can be picked up and played for a spare 15 minutes.
