Tamiya 1/35 King Tiger Restoration
For Christmas (pretty sure it was 2003) I received one of Tamiya’s 1/35 scale tanks that they set up as a conversion from a static model. This was their original 1/35 RC series tanks that included a Tiger I, King Tiger, and Leopard 2. I received the King Tiger. Being only 13 at the time, I slapped it together and painted it in what I thought was a decent camouflage scheme like the box art. This included thick, brushed coats of green, brown and tan; just what I had on hand. I drove it a bit and subsequently stuck it in a display case where it sat until early January this year (2011). That’s when I decided to restore it with more detailing and a proper paint job. With a little Easy-Off oven cleaner and a lot of scrubbing, I stripped the old paint. I’m currently in the detailing process. I’m adding copper wire handles, light conduit, Eduard photo etched Zimmerit and a metal barrel from RB models(I‘ve heard they make Aber‘s barrels).

Pics after the old paint was stripped(sorry, no before pics). You'll notice the lower front hull and the turret front and rear have white "stains" on them. This is from a previous Zimmerit attempt and the unforgiving nature of Squadron white putty. It took a lot of work to get it down flush to the plastic surface.
