WoW-You have me wondering how deep is your well.???

I have two wells...( drilled......45 Feet & 325 feet deep ) The one that is 325 feet deep has a 1 3/4 horse submersible pump that is just a few feet from the bottom with 1 1/4 flexable plastic pipe and two guys can pull it very easy.For steel pipe it's more of a job....
but for that kind of money i would buy two good pipe wrenches......a couple of good pieces of chain........and rent a forklift for a day
( mabe $200.00 to $280.00 or less for a small forklift) and invite a friend or two to come over and give you a hand.Pumps aren't very expensive if you buy them from one of the big chain retailers.

P.S. My deep well does not have a building over it...it's easy to get at.The shallow one is now inside a building but with flexable pipe it is still easy to pull.

268ft is the well, but they are going to replace basically everything, wires, casing and such. If I wouldnt be worried about dropping the new pump I would give it a shot. And I have thought about doing it myself, but any time I attempt a big project, Murphy's Law rears its ugly head lol.

Well, I just sent off an AutoCAD file to my friend with the 3d printer.  He want's to see what we can make together.  I made 200 L fuel drums, 5 of them arranged on a thin plate.  The plate can be cut away later, it's just to position the fuel drums for the 3d printing process.  I have other scale objects I am drafting too, the drums were just the first project I got done.

Interested to see! I am looking at investing in one myself, mostly for personal builds but will look into making those hard to find parts that tankers need and want.

I don't think the AM industry is growing fast enough HERE in the states while in other lands they have done some very nice white metal work and offer some great stuff in resin too.

We can do better.

You got my attention. With companies like Shapeways and even the reasonably priced home version printers, there's so many possibilities. I'd love to get into that, but with the learning curve of using the programs and every other which way my attention is pulled, I don't see it happening for a while.

I can sculpt a 1/16 human head in about an hour, but it would take me about 5 hours to make a pair of binoculars. It'd probably take minutes with autoCAD and a printer.

3d print project; update.

This is not RC so I will post updates here rather than start a new thread.

The file I sent my friend was in the wrong format so it would not work. It was a max. file and his machine uses an ipt. file. The max. would not import into the ipt. so I had to delete it and go back to the drawing board. I re-did the fuel barrel in the ipt. format and improved it somewhat in the process. I havedone a second item, also 1/16 scale. I have a third in the works now as well. He is comming out next week and will bring the stuff I sketched then.

Yea, those 3D printers are fantastic!  Never used one but seen Daryl T make some tank parts with one.  Mainly hinges, hatch covers and such.  Even
seen a hollow axel housing he made for a truck build.  Pretty awesome technology.  Cool looking parts your working on.

In a related turn of events, I actually ordered a 3d printer kit a couple weeks back and they just shipped it friday. I hope to print out tons of tank parts whenever its done! Awesome to see you guys doing stuff too. I may not have the capabilities of the really high end commercial stuff, but I should still be able to get some jobs done.

I saw a demo of printed 1/48 Sherman tracks at AMPS, must have been over 6 or 7 years ago. They were functional right out of the printer. I know the industry has grown exponentially from there, I bet that kit of yours will be capable of some pretty impressive stuff.

What kit is it? The one I was looking at a few years ago was pretty expensive and required a lot of tweaking.

Its the makergear prusa mendel, was around 800. Makerbot makes some really cool ones but I always hear conflicting things about the company/tendency to leave customers in the dust for new versions... but they have a dual extruder version, allowing you to load one with plastic, one with soluble substance, allowing you to print gearboxes or anything else in one go, then dissolve the substance and have a functional gearbox. Its pretty cool. I hope to print custom tracks and whatnot perhaps for those who want some, always willing to see more unique vehicles in the hobby.

Makerbot was what I was looking at. Eight bills isn't too bad, considering what it does.

Track links are the main thing that keeps me from scratch building what I'd really like in 1/16, a Pz I. That tank is mostly flat plates and I have all the measurements from the Aberdeen one as well as a few books, but no way to make links. I have both pressure and vacuum casting setups for resin, but I doubt those thin pieces would withstand the stress in anything less than metal.

An RSO would be cool too.

RSO? And I am pretty sure this could do treads. They would probably need a bit of cleanup, but it could work.

All I need is drawings or pictures with dimentions of the real thing, then I can scale it down easy. Also the actual size of the axle you would be using.

Post a link to a picture or sketch and I can get started. Any "C" tank you want.

I am still working out the software/printer interface so simple shapes are best but wheels are just modafied circles, I can do that.

They were printing my stuff last Friday, I haven't heard yet how it went. It would be cool to have the machine at home like Martellus, but I get to use theirs for free. It will print up to an 8 inch cube.
