Finally, some better videos using Ivano's fresh new Sherman and Bergepanzer III
Old Tamiya Sherman with Rx18 and IBU.
Notice barrel recoil, controlled by the IBU, and original TBU interfaced.

A 3 tanks scene with battle and repair:

A repair scene: the panzer III is badly damaged and moves slowly in the grass, until the Bergepanzer III restores its full power by repairing it.

Yes, the repair tanks is unarmed but can be set at any weight class, and its hits points are set accordingly. The weight class also determines how long it stops when shooting its 'repair' code (the heavier the class, the longer the time it stops).
When damaged (or destroyed) the repair tank cannot restore itself, which makes him a priority target on the battlefield, as well as a key unit for its team. I should say it requires (and deserves) an escorting tank, at least a light one.
I did the repairs sound clip by assembling different workshop samples

Is there a way to code the berg panzer to a side, or will a repair vehicle repair all vehicles within range both friendly and enemy?

There is no IFF code, but when the I.B.U. is set to 'bergepanzer', the IR range is limited to about 1 foot, plus it it directional (in the berge III shown in the video, the IR led is in the big spotlight on the upper box front).
It is not phisically possible to repair tanks any further.

2 Borealis,
Situation:
tank is damaged, lost 3 lives from 5.
Recovery vehicle comes and starts recovery.
Question:
Does therecovery starts by pressing a button once or the pilot of recovery vehicle should press the button three times (1 per 1 life restored)?

Hello Hal,
the recovery tank pilot has to press the button just once.
He does not know how many lives the damaged tank has to recover (the tank might also not be damaged at all), therefore the repair sequence is then driven by the software, according to damage (for the damaged tank) and weight class (for the repair tank).

Well, I like this. The scenarios are endless and the battlefield can become very creative.

This is exciting, but at over $200 US I don't know that I'm willing to try this out just yet. Can't afford to drop that kind of cash on unproven technology. So I'm wondering, has anyone that's NOT associated with the company tried them yet? What are the opinions? Again, this looks WAY cool, but I'd like some unbiased opinions...

You are right in your request.
At the moment some initial boards have been tested in France, on behalf of rctank.de webshop, but the whole review is in French.
The tester even tried to couple it with a Torro T-34 (success, will post results soon) and an El-mod board (partial success since motor driving is different).
If a link across the ocean is allowed, you can find it here: Installation and review (French language)

RE: Introducing the Italian Battle Unit (I.B.U.)...New videos
Today we tested the Minefield Simulator sensor; it's a micro Hall effect sensor, which detects a neodimium magnet diameter 17mm at about 25 mm. We also tested it with sensor mounted inside the hull, and it was able to detect two magnets coupled together across the hull.
Now we just have to figure out a proper appearance for a Teller mine which in scale size should be about 20mm diameter. No problem to find one, since there are magnets of all sizes available.
After the Tamiya landmine simulator, this systems brings the simulation of a minefield also in 1/16 scale.
And since the mines are magnetic, why not building a minesweeper with a magnetic bar to actually collect them from the minefield?
I leave you with such insane projects in mind, a short video and a picture of the sensor fixed inside the hull:

RE: Introducing the Italian Battle Unit (I.B.U.)...New videos
Ok, so let me see if I have this correct. The IBU is NOT a stand-alone or replacement multi-function unit or RX-18 equivalent like the Elmod or SLU systems (not necessarily a bad thing, mind you)-in other words, it can't drive the tank itself. It is NOT able to recieve signals from a 2.4 gig radio and reciever unless the original electronics can. It DOES work inconjunction with Mato, Mattoro, WSN, Heng Long AND Tamiya electronics, some involving a little rewireing (not necessarily a big deal). It exactly mimics the Tamiya Battle Unit weight and hit class settings, including proper power reduction as hits accumulate (something very lacking in the SLU). It uses the native sounds from whatever electronics you are using (RX-18, Mato, Tamiya, etc.) as well as adding on a few songs and additional sound effects. It CAN work with the native Heng Long IR flasher and reciever (something no other system offers right now). Lastly, it allows Bergepanther/recovery tank action, something NOBODY else has. It will cost about $200, give or take. Am I right? Did I forget anything? I'm interested, since the DBU is about $120 from RCTankwars and doesn't do Bergepanther functions, the Elmod is over $350 and very complex, and the SLU has some functionality/Tamiya mimicing issues that I have a problem with, even though it does completely replace the RX-18. In fact, I may want to put it in my IR KV-1 right now, if I can find the moola...
Andrew
Oh, and it has a nifty flasher unit for the Bergepanther effects (and hits? And reloading?)

RE: Introducing the Italian Battle Unit (I.B.U.)...New videos
Nice summary, Andrew, that is what it does/does not.
Just to complete the list:
- it has not been tested coupled with a Tamiya MFU yet, so we don't claim that it will surely work with it (doubts are about the way motors are driven:
- a flasher is supplied (4 red SMD leds which signal hits, reload, dead, repair)
- the bergepanther effect 'soldering light' is played trough a common led
- the IBU can work as a standalone gun or repair workshop, even in manual shooting mode
- servo or tamiya recoil direct connection
- minefield
- relay control upon destruction of tank (for smoke effects, etc.)

Hi ,Have just been reading your test on the landmine ,if you had a flail tank the flail wouldnt pick up the mines ,but you could fit a bar after the flail to pick up the mines,or even a bar on the bulldozer blade.

whats the point of even having the mines then if you're just going to have something to pick them up
