Default SLU

Ok, you guys got my attention with the SLU.I would like some feedback on the unit, if possible. My intention would be to use it in one of my tanks that are already built and weighs in at 15 lbs, using gear reduction and 480 motors from ETO armor. Anyone know if the SLU will handle this? Anything I should know about the unit? Thanks for any info guys.

Only that the SLU is awesome!!! It can handle up to 12 volts. It will take you about an hour to get it in the tank. The features are just about too many to name.

Okay when you turn on the radio and the switch you can move your turret, fire your guns, turn on and off lights all without starting the engine. When you shoot the main gun with the engine off you can hear the shell being ejected into the breech bag.

Now when you do crank the engine, you will have a sound that is as close to real as I have heard on a few systems, and better than most.

If you likeo to battle the SLU comes ready with nothing else to buy or build. It SLU also includes a seperate remote for programming the battle system for number of rounds and how many hits you take nad a number of other factors that you just don't see in other systems.

You have two sets of lights, two machine guns, you can use airsoft, heng long recoil, LED flash, High voltage flash. It plays the Panzer song (Tiger Version)

Sounds include a nice Mg 34, turret rotation, nice engine and track sounds. Cannon is okay

OH yes and one item that has been near and dear to many of us you can use a jumper to eliminate track recoil!!

Instructions and videos are helpful for your first install. After that you could just about put these things in blind folded.

The speaker that comes with the SLU is great. You get LEDs for the lights and the IR LED and Apple thingy for battles.

IMHO this is by far the best bang for your Buck by far.

Chief, you say this can run off 12v? So running an 11.1 Lipo pack should work with no problem? I was told the tamiya recoil unit could work with the SLU as well. As for the track recoil, does this mean the RX18 board is still being used in the system?

The old Heng Long electronics are completely elimated, the SLU replaces it all.

I have seen some videos of them running, but did not see a spec on voltage. I also read that the barrel elevation seems to only work in a cycling, as the stock HL does. If this is correct, you cannot control the barrel changing direction without going through the full range of motion.

Yep RX-18 is outta there!!!! Gear up and downs are great! I did forget to mention that.

I also wanted to let you know the thing is built for a tank. Tough and very well protected.

Yes on the battery on Page 2 ofthe manual it sates the range is 6.5 to 12 volts It can work with NIMH or LIO Batteries.

You have complete control of the barrel elevation, no cycling.

Cool. It sounds like everything will be there that I need. Now, hoew about those 480's? No problems with the motors? Also, do I order this through the website, or is there some contact info other than that?

Our brother Fireman Tim is the distributor of these babys.

I don't know about the 480s never put them in anything, but I don't see what they would not work. Drop Tim a note and ask.

Listen guys! I know of a few guys who are buying them three at a time. Now I thought the EL Mod was the only way to go but not anymore.

Bought one for my Das Reich Tger I.

Then bought 2 more in Sept; one for the new HL KT, the other is going in my rebuild of my first Tiger I.

There will be another one, later, most likely for a Panther G; yes, I like them

this would be something that i can add to my current DBU/DCB and would swap out the multi function unit in my current HL correct?

Do you need a seperate RX and TX? Or does it work with the Heng Long TX.

This is probably an insulting question since the HL TX is so bad...

Also, does it have a mode to work with the HL IRsystem? If it could work with everything that would be awesome!

I am not sure I follow you. The SLU is a complete electronics package for use with a hobby grade radio. When you say D units what exactly are you referring too?

Just curious as I don't have one of these. Can the SLU use a standard TBU?? I would be interesting in knowing the pin out of the "apple"

Those are DBC units, so I understand what you are saying. If you had a DBCRC I could have helped you out.

Hi Guys I have a Tiger version of the SLU,I can recomend them they sound and work great. One thing you need to get the best out of the system is a Tamiya speaker or one of the speakers used on the El-mod.

I have a Tamiya Pershing also a El-mod set for the Tiger then I managed to get a SLU.
Very impressed more features than the Tamiya and alot cheaper,as many features as the El-mod and sounds almost as good .

Joe,

Here is a link to the site, just in case you don't have it http://soundandlightunit.weebly.com/ this system looks really promising, not sure if it has "inertia" effect, but it seems to have everything else. I know you are big on the elmod, I have the 2nd release elmod, but have yet found the time to put it into anything. If you do get one of these SLU's it would be nice to post a comparison between the two. The thing I like about this system is, it is complete, no need to buy an apple like the elmod and a little bit less money wise. I was really into the elmod, but this system does seem engineered well, and even though the sound sets are tank specific, in my case I would still need two systems anyway to battle elmod or slu.

Cheers,
Wade
