Don't get me wrong, it looks pretty cool, but at the same time it's just a chinese clone of an M1 which is that last tank I would want to see released as there are about 10,000 versions of it out already! Would much rather see some British/Japanese armour or something.....anything different ...

Hi
Agreed, looks more like a member of the T72 family - T80, T90 etc, but boxier turret. The Chinese have traditionally copied Russian designs, but now seem to be improving on them.
No comparison to the western tanks - Challenger, M1, Leapoard, Le Clerc, RoKit, Japanese Type 90 - typically they have a much larger, slab sided turret. (Merkava, having followed the less travelled path, being the exception).

RE: ztz 99 H/long
i wouldn't mind seeing some new armour come out. that hull looks big with plenty of room to do some funky stuff.
I would think with the lower hull you could strip the top off and scratch build any number of russian ttops.
I kind of like that idea

It's a clone of the M1, really? Or are you just being sarcastic lol? The chasis looks like a spin off of a russian tank.

I'm kinda being sarcastic, but the point I was merely trying to make is that most modern armour out (Leopard/M1/ZTZ) all have the same basic look to them...nice thing about older armour, they were all very distinct....

Personally, I like it and will probably end up with one...

Eh? This tank looks NOTHING AT ALL like a Leopard or M1.. that's like saying all WWII tanks look the same. It's just not true.
Personally, I like it and will probably end up with one...

Its like saying all modern cars look the same because they've got the same four wheel, four door configuration despite being made in the States, Japan or Europe.

RE: ztz 99 H/long
Any thoughts as to a feasible conversion to a T-72, T-80 or a T-90?
The hull is obviously a T-72 derivative; the front glacis plate (and V-shaped splash guard) is a dead giveaway. The turret needs major work to make it more rounded like the T-72 but one could possibly cover a lot of the blockiness with the T-90's ERA blocks. Leveling off the jagged edge side skirts (a typical PLA tank feature) would just take some Dremel work.
Pretty exciting developments with this new release...
