Default Heng Long Stug III?

Hey guys I put in an order with Phil@RCTankWars for a IR HL Stug III. I havent seen hardly any posts here for this tank and I was wondering if there was a reason for this or is it just hard to find? Also if you could please post some pics of your HL Stug III

Default RE: Heng Long Stug III?

I have always liked the Stug's and will have at least one in the collection.

To be honenstI don't enjoy mine as much at the Can Am meets because;

1.) In this area the grass grows thick at certain times of the year and iin spite of some very good efforts at grass cutting, I find at ceratin times of the year, the smaller Stug does not do well in conditions that are perfectly fine for Tigers and Panthers, etc.

2.) My Stug has the DBC and with the current chip, on hit and its a pillbox without a turret; I don't need to win but it is nice to stay in the game for more than one hit. I am waiting on the arrival of a newer chip for the DBC that might help.

I found the gun assembly was very challenging to remove and re-install, Firementim and I worked on it for hours. If someone has a slick way to do this, I would love to hear about it.

I think the Stug woyuld benefit from having something like an SLU installed but Iit is "tight" inside and fitting the electronics might be tough.

It's a fast runnner out of the box and doesn't need any upgrades. Only thing you may want to do is paint the inside of the plastic tracks to help prevent pins from coming out.

I was thinking and reading about the painting of the tracks idea and I thought I would try using a clear or possibly a flat black as I dont like the rust color I saw in the how to. Glen B those are some really nice Stug's

I've been working on one. There really isn't much Heng Long left actually. Asiatam lower, Impact tracks/ sprockets( the ones I
had to fix), Asiatam Saukopf blende, Asiatam late return rollers and Impact road wheels. The gearboxes were purchased recently from Phil.

I'm not entirely sure the mantlet is correct but it beats making my own although I had to make all new trunnions 'cause all you get
is the shell.

I'm not shooting for 100% accuracy, close will be good but even with that target there's still much to do.

I'm using the RX18 and speaker as well as the majority of the wiring the thing came with but not the smoker crap as I don't want to be
bothered. I've just assembled the last 2 DBC RC2HL units and will use one in this model

I'm thinking of embedding a small wireless camera to be used with VR goggles; the camera being coaxial to the firing ir led.

Here's mine... with Asiatam lower hull and Impact tracks.  It is on deck for a Tamiya electronics upgrade once I finish all the extras to my Pershing.

What is a "Asiatam Saukopf blende"? BTW...Tank modellbau makes a nice front plate for the lower hull for the Stug.

Asiatam is the company and it's actually called a "Saukopfblende" which is basically the rounded version of the welded mantlet.

If you use Google you would find this:

actually called a "Saukopfblende"
As Panther F kindly pointed out I typed the term as two words instead of one although I've seen the term in various ways.
Split into two as I wrote it, one word and two words hyphenated to accentuate the boar's head part, as in Saukopf- Blende.
Walter Spielberger referred to it as >>Saukopf<< -Blende in his book "Sturmgeschütze", especially in photo captions.
I am by no means an expert on German grammar.

Perhaps one of our German speakers would inform us which the most German- grammatically correct, I would suspect the single word
term is probably most apt as a technical term.

I love my Stug ( one word ), it is a great runner and the back deck offers lots of room for the crew's gear.

It's only upgrades are 3:1 gears, metal tracks, metal sprocket & idler.

Here is some pix of mine out having fun...
