RE: USMC Sherman
Here are two pictures of the parts I am going to use for this modification. The stock Tamyia parts are on the left and the combination parts are on the right. The aluminum spring holders have a dome on the small end to fit the dished out sections in the swivel plate on the Mato parts. I am also using the stock Mato spring. I hope this will be enough to hold Wanda up where she is supposed to be!

Thanks Jeff.
Now I have to bite the bullet and take all the innards out and then the suspension to make the modification. Joy, Joy, Joy. Oh well, not much else to do on this holiday season. Ya, right.

I have been fighting for over an hour with trying to fit the stock Mato springs in with the cups. The springs are just too strong. I am going to try cutting one and see how that works. I will keep you informed.

RE: USMC Sherman
Joe, I have cut one loop out of the big end of the stock Mato springs. At the large end of the spring there is a flat and the end of the spring wire. Cut the next loop down directly opposite the end of the wire. It seems to do the trick. It is still kinda stiff, but that is better IMHO than too soft. I will live with it if it is. Now I am off to do the other four bogies. I have the front two done.

RE: USMC Sherman
I have completed the spring modification to Wanda and I think it will work OK for me. The cutting of one loop off the big end helped a lot, but they are still kinda stiff. I prefer that over it being to soft and haveing hardley any suspension travel at all though. I am happy with it and am looking forward to the fun run at Danville at the end of the month/year. Here is a picture of how much I cut off. I also installed the aluminum spring holders when I did it. They look great on there.

WOW! I haven't heard from you in quite a while. Glad to see you are alive and kicking again. Ya, I broke down and got a Sherman, and of course I could not just let it be. I had to do something with it, and you see the results. Hope to see you in Danville on the 31st for a one day fun run. I know it is a bit of a drive, but this is the last time to get some stick time in this year.

Here are some pictures of how I did the IR and flash in the barrel for the 105. I will be working on the recoil next. I used fiber optics to transfer the flash to a clear ink pen body that sticks out the end of the barrel. I cut four slots in it and made sure that the fiber optic was touching the plastic pen body. The IR fit inside the brass tube inside the pen body. The cable for the IR comes out between the fiber optics and down the barrel. The fiber optice are then heat shrunk to the flash unit after peeling away the orange covering. Works great!

Herman,
Correct me if i'm wrong (remember I'm a noob), butyou got a clear body ink pen, cut 4 slots in it and installed the fiber to the 4 slots, then you stipped back the orange covering, and the fiber is heat shrunk to the flash. One question I have is did you use any kind of adhesive to attach the fiber to the slots on the pen and also to the flash? I am working on my sherman and have givin up on installing the IR into the main gun manlet and was almost just going to finish it, as a stock non battle tank until I seen this.
Thanks, Jim
On Edit: where do you get your fiber and is there certain sizes?

RE: USMC Sherman
Hi Jim,
I used 1.5mm fiber optic line and I CA'd them into the slots in the pen. I also used a brass tube of the right size for the IR emitter, cut so the dome of the emitter in the tube is 9mm from the end of the tube and glued that into the pen body. I have about 1/4" of the clear pen past the brass tube for the IR. The end of the IR tube is flush with the end of the metal barrel leaving that 1/4" sticking out for the flash. You do not have to remove the orange covering over the flash unit if you don't want to. If you leave it on and heat shrink the fiber optics to it, it will flash orange at the end of the barrel. Hope this clears things up for you.

Here are a couple of pictures of some of the detail I have been working on for Wanda. All the hatches still open! Can anyone identify, by name, the two packs?

Great paint job on the Deuce gear. It's been a long time since I had to refer to them at all. Haversack and Rucksack? I know that we always called the lower one a Buttpack. -Mike

RE: USMC Sherman
Those were the names when they were used alone without the bed roll. Butt pack was one attached to the web belt and suspenders, not to the other pack. Close!
