Default Elefant Vs. Ferdinand tracks

Anyone off hand know if the two tracks were different in width? Looked through history of the 653rd and couldn't find a reference.

As far as I know, the tracks were not changed, just little changes were to make a Ferdinand an Elefant were made. Basically the same tank.

I bought the Ferdinand tracks from Asiatam to put the them on my Hooben Elefant, but the holes for the sprocket teeths doesnt fit. The Hooben kit has to wide spockets compared to the Asiatam Ferdinand tracks, so maybe there are differences??

cheers

There will be differences/tolerances between manufacturers tracks but not between an Elefant and a Ferdinand.

They are two complete different tracks, just trying to find the width dimensions to try and confirm some pics and descriptions I've come across.

Brett,
The final prototype, the one that was sent to the 653rd show it with the 640mm tracks that was the same width as the Elefant version had, here are some pics with the specifications.

As far as I know I thought Hooben was offering their own metal tracks for the Elefant that you can purchase separately..

Thanks Steve,  looks like the VK4501/Ferdinand tracks were 600mm while the Elefants were 640mm.  So I guess that description/blueprint is correct for tank 003 since it had the Elefant tracks. Looks like it's gonna be a pistol port instead of a loaders hatch on the rear right of the turret.

Coming soon
Let me know as soon as they are available, so I can place an order. Metal tracks are a must have.

Should be ready in a month or two. When available they will be on my sight, and I'll announce here.

Asiatam tracks dont fit the hooben running gear, it was and expensive mistake to make and lead to my elephant ending up more expensive than the asiatam metal one! By asiatam do produce elephant and ferdinand tracks so there is some difference there

I decided to cut down each part of the front sprocket by 1.5mm to at total of 3mm more narrow sprocket tooth allignment. This will make the Hoobens Sprocket fit the Asiatam tracks.

For the Idler to fit, Ibought the Asiatam idler. That fits perfectly into the Hooben Elefant idler arm.

cheers

You will also have to enlarge the grooves in the wheels too

oh boy - its not gonna be an easy job.

Another way around it is to install Asiatam 3:1 gearboxes with the long shafts and just make a metalplate for mounting the gearboxes to the hull and then install the Asiatam sprockets.

cheers
Steen
