Default Transmitter for Tamiya Leopard 2a6 with turret stabaliser

Hi all,

Just needed help with the above. I've done a lot of research, but information is still pretty opaque, just wanted clarity with regards to this matter.

Basically, I've boiled it down to 2 controllers. Not sure which is the correct one, so I would like some help:

1) Futaba 4YF-FM - This is a 4 channel analog remote, which is the most compatible with the tamiya analog system. Main issue is I have to buy a self-centering mod, as only the air version is available. Also, its pretty dated, and can't do things like gear changes. Might never be able to use this either way, as I've searched hard online, and can't find a self-centering mod.

2) Turnigy 9x - 4 Channel digital radio. Saw online that it will cause control lag, plus the turret stabaliser will not work, but either the source of this wasn't reliable, or I'm reading something wrong. Heard from multiple sources that digital radios do not play well with Tamiya's analog system. Again, needs a self-centering thingo, but can be ordered in Australia. Able to do things like 3 different gears for forward, 1 back. This is my preferred option though.

Not sure what to get, and prefer to get something without all the self-centering modifications. Would appreciate it if members could shed some light on this.

Default All Yours!

I got two extra Futaba FM Systems, 3 total. You can have a NEW one for $20.00 plus UPS Insured Shipping, if you live in the USA, 48 States.

New Futaba FM.

New Futaba FM, what you see is what you get. Charger, spare battery, 2 servos, neck strap etc.

My Tamiya Leo 2 with the stabilization unit uses the same Futaba FM System, built ages ago, but a favorite!

The transmitter for sale has the self centering left stick spring return kit added.
FYI, the Futaba spring return kit is available at the AAF Museum and is simple to install.
I use this same RC System with my Leo 2 with stabilization, pure plug and play setup.

John

Thanks John. Is the radio self centering, or do I need to mod it?

The self centering left stick return spring is installed and works! I will check back in the morning, calling it a night.

Yes, the Futaba Skysport FM above is sold.

This new old stock Futaba FM set with self centering left stick option is available for 48 State USA Purchase Only.

Sent a PM. Reach me on Facebook at John Ackerman at my rc model and toy page for details, the PM function here is not always working at my end.

New old stock.

What you see is what you get.

Receiver and charger.

Careful John. tch2000 may be Ken Meyers! Still trolling RC Universe after all these years...

If you don't know who Ken Meyers is....here's a good read from days past on RC Universe.

Ken Meyers is likely user tch2000 (see post #21 in this thread).

BTW

Though Tamiya does have note about PCM radios and the Leo, I use the Futaba 2.4 FASST radio's with them and have no issues of control.

The stabilizer actuation with the stick (analog) is tricky, got to get the finger movement right like joystick arcade games... remember those?

Something I have noted, the Leo and Type 10 electronics are sensitive to low battery voltage, contributing to false shutdowns. Make sure its a new battery for best results

Hi, Yes, well maybe, years ago, I first used a Futaba 2.4 system with my Leo 2. It worked fine, but would not trigger the stabilization unit at all, the other functions would work. Switching to the plug and play Futaba Skysport FM system, all functions worked perfectly, including the Tamiya Stabilization Unit. And most Tamiya rc tanks go wonky with a low tank battery and for sure the latest Tamiya rc tank electronics are no exception. John
