Hi Bob and crew!

I will at least be bringing my four tracked vehicles. Not enough of a pond to make it worthwhile to bring the RC boats. I might bring an old diorama I made a couple of decades ago for the model contest. Haven't made up my mind about that yet.

Coordinate your travel plans...

Now is the time to communicate with your fellow Military buffs, RC club members and RCU buddies in your area so you can plan to travel together to Danville. Car-pooling and room sharing is a great way to keep your travel costs low. Many guys also fly into Greensboro NC which is just 55 miles form the AAF Tank Museum. You can also offset your trip costs by bringing items to sell at the many flea-market tables supplied to us by the museum. I often come back with more money than I left home with....much to my wifes delight.

Hi Herman,

Here is a video of your ride in the Patton tank with my buddy George from LI NY driving. The tank easily flattens that helpless Chevrolet Blazer. We do this several times during the course of the weekend and it is a blast to see, feel & hear. The pavement shakes under that machine. That Patton tank is much lighter than a King Tiger. One can only imagine how terrifying it must have been atop a cobblestone street in Europe in 1944 for a farmboy from the Mid-West when those giants came roaring into Bastogne. No wonder "Panzer Fever" caused many sleepless nights for the boys in the fox-holes. My 88 year old hunting buddy, Ray, said that when he was captured in Bastogne the K T was the biggest vehicle he had ever seen.

I got my ride back in 2007 and it a a thrill of a lifetime. RC tankers are selected to ride as honorary tank commanders. Who will be the lucky ones for 2012????

Here is a link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOAW3...k1q4C8LDagQ%3D

Bob, Bob, Bob, you should have never posted that still picture of me. There are now 849 and 3/4 computer screens that will never be the same after having that wonderful image on them. Oh, by the way, I do not sign autographs.

No one looks happy after their tank has been KO'ed in battle. I hope everyone is finishing up their projects and wringing out the bugs... That photo balances out the smile on your face in the tank crushing video.

If you can make this event it's a lot of fun, the ultimate playground for an IR Tanker. The Museum is a gem in itself very impressive, I did not see it all last year, it is huge! I cannot make it this year guys, but I will be watching from afar, looking forward to picks, videos and battle reports. I will be there God Willing next year, and planning the Armor I will bring already!

Hi Phil,

I'm sorry to hear that you can't make it. I just got back from the trip abroad with Dennis and Steve and we we looking forward to seeing you again and showing you our books, Pix, Video and souvenirs. You will be missed.

For those who can make it, get ready now. I'll be posting more on the event but is is coming up fast....DO NOT MISS THIS. The staff at Bovington are having the same issues as Danville so events like this are scaling back and may disappear soon so do not postpone it for antother year. Do it now!!!

Yes, I'm afraid to say it, but I have become a slacker! Still fidiling with the LVT H6. Working on suspension parts and tracks. Tracks are the ones that are going to take the most time and effort to do. I have to modify every link to get something close to the original. Oh well, it will give me something to do in my old age.

Super Mike. I hope you can get some other midwest tanker to take th trip with you. You, Steve & Dennis have an even longer drive than I do. I'm only 525 miles away. How far is it for you? It was great to see Martin in England. He took care of us like family. I wish we could have had more time with him. We did have two great relaxing dinners together with Steve & Dennis at the Poachers Inn. Hey Martin...remember Charlie & Louise???

Lousie was the redheaded bartender that I called Joe because of her Jose Cuervo t-shirt.

Reason 12: The AAF Tank Museum is one of the only Armor Museums that displays running and driving tanks at their events.

Many of the pieces there run and drive so close to you that you can feel the heat coming from the engine, smell the exhaust and brakes, feel the ground shaking under your feet as it roars by you and hear the metal being torn apart on the victim vehicle. The Chevy Caprice and Ford pickup put up the best fight to date...IMHO. The Chevy Caprice is still there on display under the T-72 from Iraq. The musuem is almost a third of a million square feet so is is huge. Except for the APC on the front lawn, all of the historal artifacts are kept safe and dry inside a barrier free, easily walked, family friendly museum. They regularly show of the immense power and strength of these war machines by crushing cars and trucks with one. I've been to many armor musuems (about 9 thusfar) and this is the only one that puts on such a show. They even chose a few lucky RC tankers at each event to ride in the tank.

Check out some of the links below for more action....but come see it for youself in person on April 28th & 29th, 2012.

REASON # 11: IT IS FUN FOR ALL AGES.

Young, old, Big, or little.... The Tank Museum has something for eveyone to enjoy. The tank demos, weapons demonstartions, Kid games. War games, Vendors, Re-enactors, great food all at reasonable prices. Maybe some RC tanks there too. Come all ages and enjoy the day rain or shine.

Default RE: WE ARE HERE AND HAVING A GREAT TIME AT AAF Tank Museum Extravaganza

Well I have had quite the last couple of weeks. I had a health scare, had a Biopsy done, got the results back this morning, and the news was good, so my life can return to normal. Needless to say this little diversion got in the way of pretty much everything else I was doing.

Before heading off to see the doctor and get the results, I went down into my shop just to check out the Tanks. As I stepped into the shop my socks got suddenly wet.. Appears as if my sump pump failed and spring run off water had overwhelmed the weeping tile and I had 1/4 inch of standing water in my shop. Luckily, I had a back up pump I was able to put into service, and I shop vac'd up all the water before it spread to other areas in the basement. Only my shop was effected. However by the time the insurance adjustor was done, they had a restoration crew in to the house, ripped out all my work bench cupboards, had the flooring ripped up, and right now I have a huge dehumidifier running and three large air movers drying everything out. I guess they don't mess around with water damage regardless of how little it is. Deal with it now, before mold becomes an issue is what the adjuster said. However my shop is out of commision, and all my stuff was hurriedly packed into boxes and moved out of the shop so the clean up and restoration could begin.

SO with all this going on I never booked any tickets as I wasn't sure how soon they would get me in to have all my tests done. Didn't want a trip to Danville to get in the way of any discovery tests I might have to undergo. I will credit the healthcare system though. From the day of discovery of a possible issue to my test results yesterday was only two weeks. So it looked like I could have made the Danville event. However this combined with the little flood episode has pretty much nixed Danville for me. I will try and catch another event either this summer or the fall.

So I regret I won't be able to attend, as I had a lot of fun last year and met some wonderful people. But as McCarther said, I shall return!!!!!!!!

Cheers
