WOW this is great guys!!! My dad was in the 29th Infantry at Omaha Beach during D-Day. He is still with us today as he is 87years young. He rarely talks about the war and I dont push it. He went to St Lo all the way to Germany during the war. Wish I were there. Be safe guys!!
Thanks Ratnow,

My buddy Ray is 88 and did th same. He was captured on Dec. 16th, 1944. The German Captain told them surrender or die in Bastogne. His unit was sent there for R & R not to fight and they had nothing to fight with. They knew the Germans were on the run and it was going to end soon. IF they could stay alive they would be home sooner or later. He was a POW for 6 months. He was feed every day (beet soup, some bread & Water). He always said at least he wasn't POW for the Japanese. Most of his V A buddies from the Jap camps died in their 60 & 70's. The Japs treated them horribly. It took me years to get him to open up about his experiences. Try it with him and video it. It will become a valuable part of you family history that you will cherish. Thank him for his service on behalf of my family and I. It was great to see them being honored here in Europe. Make the trip if ever you can. I was with Steve & Dennis who are both from FLA. Reach out to them and try get a Sunshine state RC tanks club going. You should try to come to Danville at the end of the month.
Bob

Hey I appreciate the invite. I may try and get dad to do a video tape interview...he lets some parts out somrtime but rarely. I will certainly share your thanks with him. Im going over to his house tomorow...he got to go to the WW II monument in DC back in Oct and he got me a scrap book of pics they took on the trip. It was the very last trip for the Vets of WW II in our area. I have a friend I met online in France that does a lot of digging around the hedge rows of France. Hes trying to get me backgrond on dads unit as to where exactly they went. He was an Ammo runnerHere are a couple of pics of dad at Camp Blanding where he did his basic before Normandy.

Rat,
Definately get your Dad'srecollections down on video as Bob suggested, I was never able to get my Dad to open up about his experiences in WWII he was in the signal corp attached to an armoured division that came ashore DDay +16 He made it through France and into Germany and was wounded by a sniper in March of 1945. He was given a medicaldischarge from the Army after his recovery. He diedback in 1997,his personal memories of what he went through are nowlost to usforever.

Martin,
I too would like to thank you for all your help and suggestions, it certainly helped make our trip. We had a great time, we weremost impressed with Bovington and Saumur. It was great seeing you and meeting some of the tankers there at Bovington, agreat group of modelers. Hope we can get youback and maybe some of themto Danville soon.

Back in the USA tomorrow afternoon, I'll try to get some of my photos up after I get back, very slow internet here tonight.

He still looks in fighting shape. I very much like the tribute on your truck. I hope he lives to be 100+. God Bless you all.

Hi Martin,
We three can't thank you and your UK RC tankers enough. They are a great group of mates.

If you guys want to see a brand new video about what we saw on Saturday , here is a link from the Tank Museum about the recent Tiger Day. Enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiJZZ...2&feature=plcp

Hi.

No matter what happen just go and enjoy.
And always don't forget to enjoy the journey.
Last year, Our family went to Saumur, France Tank museum. It was sacred journey for me and my son.
We enjoyed museum and the town was so beautiful, walk around river and town area so so romantic and fresh...
And I strongly recommend to use taxi to get there from train station and make sure that taxi pick you guys up from the museum too.
wish you have safe and great trip

UPDATE 4-8-12 Back in the USA

First and foremost Happy and Blessed Easter to all. I got back home yesterday afternoon but was too tired to post and had to sleep since I had to be at work at 7PM to 7 AM. It was a tough week to be away form my family. My one daugher was off from school and my 19th wedding aniversary was on the 3rd. But I did make it home in time for Easter Sunday with my kids. Soon they will start their Easter Egg hunt in the house. At 13 and 16 you would think they would out-grow it, but they do cherish family traditions so for that I am eternally grateful. I have not heard from Dennis or Steve yet but they were flying out later than I from London. I hope to post more later today.

We hope to make a prersentation at the chior practice at the Danville Tank Extravaganza at the end of the month. I hope the Canadian tankers can make th trip down to batle with us. There are so many of you guys in the Great White North...LOL. We are sorting thru thousands of pix and more will be coming.

I would like to add my Thank You! to Martin. I enjoyed meeting you and your fellow tankers. I wish we would of had more time to spend visiting with all of you. I had a fantastic time on this trip, my only problem is I came home sick and am now taking medicine which is making me light headed(ok, lighter headed) and sleepy. When I feel better I will review what pictures I took and post them. Dennis
