RE: First Tank Heng Long KV-1 IR metal!
thanks alot! The Mato gear box is actually already installed in it, got it like that, havent installed the metal tracks yet, I will probably wait til I paint it! I will get a piece of wood, that's actually not a bad idea! I think Krylon got plastic paints as well. i'll check for primer...can get that at walmart!

I think all the mato tanks come equipped with the HL pot metal boxes not the mato brass ones. I agree about the asiatam ones though!

Yep, I'm talking about the brass ones that have a lower gear ratio - great for slowing the tank down to a more realistic speed (tho still to fast for this particular build when we tested it at Danville [&:] ), but gearshafts just aren't strong enough, they simply bend out of the way when the tank encounters any real resistance (like a slight incline )

i'm starting to look for colors for the KV-1, I dont have a paint gun yet (even if I have a little compressor) so I was more looking at spray paint...the Russian tanks seems to have used pretty much the same color, but i've read that they dilluted them differently from a factory to another, so the color isnt always the same...seems like it not a really dark green like the KV-1 comesw stock from factory but a lighter green with yelloish shade,,,other times it's a grass green...pretty hard to get...anyway.. I guess any army green will do with some dust and weathering?

If you want it to compete at Danville then these upgrades are a good start. lots of speed and power with my 400 motors and steel gearbox.

yeah.. I know that somehow I will have to upgrade a bit, I would like to enjoy a 2.4Ghz remote but I have to let my girlfriend digest the tank first and the DBCRC2 unit isnt cheap! so for now I will enjoy my tank as it is. I will do minor estetic changes but that's all for now! I wanna live to see it work

I might just try that!!! bottom feed or top feed? I might just buy a cheap one to try if I like it ( that's usually not the best idea, but I dont wanna invest too much yet)

ok...installed the metal track this week-end! I must say that with the new 400 motors Phil sent me..this thing is much better!!! but now with the metal track, i'm thinking about clocking the springs...I added a link to the tracks because they were too flush, but now they seems a bit looser, they dont trow off but makes weird noise when I turn..do I clock them alot or just a little bit? I dont really wanna scrap some prings either...
Thanks!

Clocking depends on how the tanks sits. If it's sitting on top of the swing arms then you do need to clock the springs. The good think about clocking springs is that your not doing anything with the springs other then drilling new mounting holes that increases the tension. If you don'y like it, return the springs to the original mounting holes and no harm done. I do think with metal tracks that you would need to clock the springs though. Just my thoughts.

Ok! so I clocked the last2 road wheels of each sidesof the tank..I think the metal tracks were too heavy and when I was going forward, the suspension was compressed to maximum and the tracks were getting loose! so when I go forward now, everything is ok...but I forgot about backward... I guess I will clock them all once and for all! And I would like to upgrade the speaker as well...sound like crap..any ideas? I just aquired a Panzer 3 as well! The guy started the desert painting, so I will probably continue that way..and actually it's all metal upgraded...so I will be able to run one tank while i'm painting the other!
