It is still shell damage just the same and worthwhile. Regardless of who and how it was done, I do enjoy seeing it. Thanks for the information.

RE: Battle Damage
Honestly, I am not sure how to explain it, but I'll try. the holes were done using an awl. I put the part on a piece of rubber so I can make the impression of a bullet passing through and leaving the material pushed in where it entered. The smaller holes were done using the same method but a pick instead of the awl. After that it is amatter of painting and weathering to make it look as though there are some burn marks and perhaps some light rust around the exposed metal. Not difficult to achieve really, just p[ractice on scrap first and try different htings.
You might also consider checking out ak-interactive.com and looking at the instructional posts there. they show techniches on weathering you may find useful.

this panther had also rounded hooks on top the roofsides , peiper had only a few of these early panther G's in his arsenal, he had late's to with the famous G chin also
here you see on that pic WOII damage was not that big most of that time

A damaged Russian T-26 supposedly the result of the winter war 1939-40
An American GI inpects the inside of this Sturmtiger, notice the 4 nice holes in in the left rear below the grille
Several direct hits & one glancing shot (circled) being shown off by a crewman of this King Tiger.

RE: Battle Damage
The chin mantle wasn’t introduced at that time, both surviving Panther in the Ardennes have normal mantle without the chin and normal exhaust’s but have the crew heater some Panther still had zimmerit, also back to the chin mantle this never replaced the normal mantle which was still in production throughout the war

Have you got any pictures of Peipers Panthers with the chin - all the ones in Duel in the mist seem to be chinless?

I'm not good at all when it comes to historical evaluation, German tank divisions, who is in them, nor even very good at tank identification ... but can't this tank pass for an Ardennes chinned Panther, possibly one of Peiper's?

RE: Battle Damage
Dunno about that last one - its missing the track hangers around the top of the turret. I can't really make out the turret number - might say '111' but I have better pictures of '111' that clearly show it as a chinless.
karel, I've seen that pic elsewhere credited as another unit - The most obvious problem with it is that Peiper's 2 Panther companies were numbered 1** and 2** - 302 can't be one of his.
The SS divisions (re-equipped first?) seem to have had chinless, but I have photo's (somewhere on a bookshelf) showing 5th Pz Army tanks around Hotton with chins - I want to say 2nd Pz, but I can't lay my hands on the book right now...

yes you could be right at a moment peiper took the road of the 2nd SS swer abt wich was get stucked and wasn't need it then ... his original route was founding to difficult and a bad situation on the roads wich were not made for those heavy tanks
these units get so close together that if you weren't there no one can say this was ... panters or so
