Spent some more time on the tiger mouse again last night.....hull deck bolts, I tried 1mm from scale hardware. Didn't look right and cost way to much so I got some hex plastic stock in 2mm and slice cut about 200 of them for bolt heads....

then I used a larger drill bit and ran the drill backward to couter sint the bolt holes....

here is what it ended up looking like....

got done sanding all the extra stock off the king tiger peaces...

and used the driver parascope to hold the hull down....

OK, now I have to figure out the turret....with this as a base...

been looking at models and drawing....

not sure why the the turret crew had so little vision of the out side world.....

RE: Ludwig/ Heng Long king tiger E-100 build

The fact that the turret does not allow the commander any vision really bothers me.....the upright para scope is over the gunner and I do not think he could use it....why no para scope for the loader? They gave one to late tiger1 and tiger 2....Panzertracts 6.3 states that a tiger 2 style commanders hatch was not to be used as they could be shot off!!!??? It just does not make sense to me, When you think about German tanks, all that was carried over in tank design from them was the commanders station where he couldview 360 degrees while directing the tank on the battle field. I am really thinking about a panther f commanders hatch for this tank. It may have to behigher to allow the commander see over the flat turret roof.Still thinking...what do you guys think?

Time to figure out how to mount the gun.....start with some PVC pipeing....

and for some thickness.....and time to use some more king tiger parts...

Ok, thats a fail, time for some more armor....crazy how much this tank had...

Well....while that sets, lets work on the rear deck...I was thinking about the shutters the july 45 king tiger was supose to have...

and it ends up looking like this....

I still need to add screens and these vents are a little larger than the kt so more scratch work.....While I think about that, I will finish the rear grates.....

Well, I lived through Sandy, no power for 2 days....I live inland so it was mostly just really strong winds, not that much rain....Spent way to much time working by candle light....god, I missed my dremmel!!!! Hated doing this.....

the next step was messing with the screens....the king tiger screens don't really fit my new shutter grills...

the first couple attempts were fails...Yes, I show how not to do it....

ended up just making a standard box and cutting off the corners....like I have stated before, I am a hack.

made some shutters out of rr stairs for the fan vents...and added the kt screens....

I can live with that....spent a little time on the rear plate....adding bolts and such...

and after the light got crappy...I messed with the main gun....cut the side angles and changed the nose look, I will add bolts...

and now its time for the 75mm gun mount( I will put the ir light in here when I am done...)

Thats it for now..I have to prep the m26 for danville.....more next week.

    what do you guys think?.......

Well, I am back at it....the work bench is a mess as you can see...

started working on the turret again....I still hate making round things!

    working on the parascope mounts....

and while things are drying, I decided I needed a bit more to the gun shield 8O

and more work on the parascopes...

and more waiting and drying....noticed the tank was sitting on the ground so I reclocked the springs...

gun mounted on the turret and the parascopes on....not sure if I like them

and I still have so much work to do....*sigh*

I haveslapped togather the middle ones to a point......the easy parts are the ends...these

, the hard ones are the angled peaces that are supose to slip onto the guides on the sides of the hull

getting the plastic bent is anothertrick I am working on, sofar I have used some.8mm sheet bonded to the end forms, then I heat then so the get less"flat"....next I use some 1.0mm sheet and bond those to the bent .8mm sheets....stillworking on them, they aregoing to have to be removeable....to service the tracks and alike.....PIA

Spent more time with the beast...time for those dam fenders....

the end peaces are easy, the angled inner parts have me stumped......so, do I make 3 pair of different fenders?....no, I think I will go for a matched right and left fenders that look like they are 3 different parts. Now to the framework.....much melting of plastic makes me see pretty colours....

now I need more plastic beams...

while it is drying, time to work on that rain cover for the gun....

and while that is drying....more details....

Not sure I will get to work on it tomorrow, I have to change to snow tires and change my O2 sensor...fun,fun....

RE: Ludwig/ Heng Long king tiger E-100 build

Spent more time on the fender armor today...the hard part is to make the sides match....what I did with the front and rear make one side so I liked it, cut it off and make copies for the other side....here is the front...

now for the rear, it seemed to be a angled flat plate, here it is compared to the panzertrarts picks...

just comparing it to the idler wheel for hight....I noticed there is a rear panel/fender I have to add from the rear....again panzertracts pic..

    see the holes?

Now to this point I have just been making the frame of the fenders, these things are going to be removable. They are also going to be tough as I am going to be fighting this thing( this means its going to bump into stuff).....So far the framing is just tacked onto the hull so I can pop these things off....at this point I am thinking about inserting panels and screwing them on from the inside...2 or 3 bolts a side. I am also thinking about using some shoe goo to reinforce the joints.....thats it for now....

I really like how your fenders are turning out. As far as attaching them to the hull, you might consider using the really strong magnets that they sell in craft stores (rare earth magnets? Not sure what they're called). They have a very strong bond when two of them are used face-to-face, and I'm thinking that if you mount a pair of them at each fender attachment point, it'll stay there through battling and still be able to be removed when you want to (or in case of collision).

I thought of magnets...I have thought of velcro....

found this pic on the web, thought it was funny

I have been trying to get all my details lined up....not an issue with tanks like the king tiger, just look at a pic. his is a paper panzer, it was never finished so a lot of the details were never worked out.....found these pics of a model where someone did a very interesting job sorting some of the details...

things like the hoods over the para scopes, tow cable mounting, tool storage, gun tube lock......Interesting, things like the tow rings are a problem, this tank was suppose to weigh 120-130 tons, king tiger tow rings and tow cables will not cut it.....not sure How I am going to work this out....

    Wow

Very nice work showcased here. A lot of time and effort going into this. A agree one of the best build threads we have had in awhile. I appreciate the effort you are going to in order to share this with us.

This big fantasy armor would have kept the Typhoons busy.

Its the build that would not end!!!!....today I am working on the fender armor again.....now to make them removable....
found some nice hardware that solves some problems.....

    and the mounting plates...

    and the bolts installed

now to add some flex into the whole mess.....shoe goo around all the joints...

while that mess is all drying up, time to work on tow loops.....some plastic rod, a candle.

and the final result is a bucket of fail....

dam things have to fit on these.....have to come up with something else...

well, the glue is dry....some gental pulling and prying and here are the fender frames....

while I am figureing out the tow loops, I have to figure out the best way to skin and detail then frames......later...

For the lifting shackles ( your tow loops), have you thought of using the original shackles that came with the kit. Seems you could find some plastic rod the same size, split them in the middle and insert a piece to get the proper opening space? You prbably would not be able to use them to tow anythingbut at least it'll look good. Ano her I dea would be to use one as a mold and try casting soem?

    Just some thoughts.
