Is the Heng Long IR compatible with all the other systems? I was thinking I'd like a Stug and they are IR only.

Nope. That was my first mistake. I showed up at a DAK battle wondering why everyone spent so much money on Tamiya tanks. Now I know..... Much $$$ later. But-it was all worth it.
My recommendation is to buy a used Tamiya - much cheaper over the long run then modifying a HL (not as much fun ).

IR is the only system that will fit in the hl Stug, too small for the BBs

Hi Kevin,

I have a Tam-Long Stug III and and a Panzer III. The Stug is a blast to TBS IR battle. It is so low to the ground, it can hide anywhere....even next to a knocked out tank. You can either install Tamiya electronics (the most reliable and best long term value) or install a David Battle Unit /DBU. I sent you a PM about NEAD. You should have my phone number in that email.
