Default Asiatam KV-1 Hull - what accessories will fit?

Hey guys!

I'm nearly complete in my KV-2 build from rctank.de, and so far I'm very happy with it. The only issues I've come across are a couple that I've since read up on; plastic HL tracks don't fit the asiatam metal drive sprockets, and are way too tight as supplied. For whatever reasons I wasn't given any spare track links / pins (custom order).

So here's my 2 questions.

What tracks fit best? From what I've read Tamiya plastics fit nicely, but if I want to go metal what should I look for? Are the Matomart sprockets made by Asiatam? (that all counts as question #1... !)

Will a Tamiya KV-1 speaker unit fit inside the asiatam hull?

Thanks

ps. Yellowshaker it seems the Ruskies have gone and recaptured your tank Ty for the helpful advice!

Igot a KV-2 in works as well....maybe finally we can get some of us Kv-2'rsout in the field in somenumbers lol! Anyways as far as the tracks, don't dink around, the only tracks that are made for asiatam sprockets are the good "closed-pin" design made specifically for asiatam. Matomart's tracks are made byMato Toysand only fit stock HL sprockets and nothing else. Plus HL sprockets require a long-shaft gearbox, where as your asiatams are designed fora short-shaft.....so either way HL sprockets won't fit.....

Finished!

Taigen "4:1" steel gearboxes (Has anyone reviewed these yet? I love them!!), Clark TK22-Russian, Tamiya KV1 speaker, Asiatam metal hull, recoil, metal tracks, Torro KV-2 turret.

Special notes for rctank.de and Welsh Models for providing excellent support & customer service for all my random questions and many parts

Weighs 13-1/2 pounds altogether and turns really well.

Pics coming as soon as RCU server issues die down...

I am also building a KV-1 with the asiatam Metal Hull. Need some help.

I was intending to purchase a Waltersons 3 speed gearbox for the KV-1 but was asked if I needed the long or short shaft.

Anyone here knows which is the right one for the Heng Long Metal Sprocketsfrom MATO?

Long shafts for anything that is or copies the stock Heng Long sprockets. I BELIEVE only the asiatam metal sprockets are built for short shafts.

If you're using the sprockets from a stock HL, go long.

And yes I forgot the add, the metal sprockets from Mato are long shaft too :P I had to double check on a few pictures.

You can see that the HL and Mato sprockets 'stick out' a bit where the drive shaft gets bolted down. The asiatam units are almost nearly flush.

KV-2 is such a cool tank.

13.5 pounds that's pretty good. I'm at 12 pounds with my KT with torro metal hull and a few metal parts/tracks.

A KT with metal wheels would be insane... like 15 pounds Id reckon!

I think ive said it before but, if you're going to have a heavy tank, these taigen 4:1s seem up to it, very tough. Ive yet to try a geared-down waltersons but I will eventually.

Yeah metal wheels... insane. Maybe this summer LOL!

I'm packing walterson 3:1 gearbox. Very heavy/solid. With the now added weight of the metal lower (and MUCH better suspensions), it looks VERY good driving around and climbing.

I dont know if I'd be into this hobby if it wasnt for asiatam / torro lower hulls. I simply love them, they perform flawlessly. The KV lower is by far the best, and I have the PnzIII and Tiger too. I wish they made one for the Sherman / Panzer 4

Default RE: Asiatam KV-1 Hull - what accessories will fit?

I just purchased a complete Asiatam KV-1 metal hull from Rctank.de. I have a HL KV-1 Super Metal version and Dominique was able to confirm a few things.

1. He confirmed that for the Asiatam hull, you need short shafts so I purchased a couple of short shafts to modify the stock HL metal gear boxes.
2. The Asiatam metal drive sprockets arent a perfect fit with the HL metal tracks so he suggested I use the HL metal sprockets. At some point, I may upgrade the tracks and go back to the Asiatam sprockets.

Now...I havent received the hull and parts yet so I cant confirm any of this but based on what I have heard and read about Dominique...I think I can trust his judgment. I will post as soon as I get it running.

Hey guys,
I'm a die hard Tamiya fan, but I've decided to try something new as the new Clark boards have me intrigued.

Just bought a HL KV-1 from a private seller and when it arrived the front ideler arm was sheered off at the hull. So now the plan is to add an Asiatam metal hull and suspension, plus I'll add Asiatam metal tracks with Clark Electronics. From what I've read here, if I go with Asiatam 3-1 steel gearbox, it will require short shafts with the Asiatam drive sprockets.

But do any of you know can you use the Taigen 4-1 short shafts with the Aisatam drive sprockets. Wasn't sure if they have the same diameter and length output shaft as the Asiatam 3-1's, and will the Taigen gearboxes line up with the mounting bolt pattern in the floor of the Aisatam lower?

Thanks a million!

Big monster indeed. You just have to make a video for us :-)

Sorry for a dumb question maybe, but what differs the late and yearly lower hull. I see Domeniq at rctank.de has a few options on lower hull.

Did you have a kv allready ore did you shop all in parts ?

streetsquid: Alright, good choice :P The Asiatam metal tracks NEED the asiatam metal sprockets, which in turn require short shaft gearboxes. Now any short shaft gears will do, I'm using the taigen 4:1's but the asiatam 3:1s should fit fine. The bolt pattern lined up just fine and they are a very solid unit, no play at all in the sprocket. The only difference with the 4:1's is the allen head bolt that holds the sprocket on is 3mm instead of the usual HL size. It comes with new bolts.

sollie: Videos below :P

As far as I know the difference is in the road wheel pattern. The late version has the open holes, and the early version which I bought, are solid with no holes. I would like to ask how much you spent for that KV-2?

I see rc shop have KV-2 IR version installed high tension flash with Asiatam upgrade part : metal lower hull, metal road wheels, sprocket, idle wheel, metal track black color, 4:1 ratio steel gearbox, Clark board TK22 KV sound and their turret support real recoil with total cost around 500-600usd. Is it worth to buy?

I got it basically in kit form from rctank.de, so all in one order but unassembled. They're great guys. Total cost so far.. well.. I overspent on plastic tracks that I didn't end up using, new 5000 amp/hr battery, it's probably up to $700 with the Clark board now.

Warlord if you can get it for that price, I'd go for it for sure.
