Default T26E4 Super Pershing build

OK Troops, the completion of my Jumbo has raised my appreciation for those Heavy tanks on the good guy side. It just so happens through the power of trades and club motor pools, I have "inherited" a project Super Pershing from the east coast. I like where the project was going, but I need to DAK it up a bit.

Nice! Can you take a guess who I am? The other HENG LONG Super Pershing driver, "T", at DAK. I found a barrel solution for my SP and ill upload some pics as soon as the Bondo dries and gets partially sanded.

This is more of an update than a true conversion. I received the vehicle at the last battle and actually managed a quick functionality modification and got to battle with it. We had a rush of Pershings and a few allied victories to boot.

All systems functioning and only cosmetic changes are needed. My step one is to cut the fenders down. Our historic version had no skirts up front and the sides were cut back to the line of the stowage boxes. I used the trusty razor saw and cut mine down in about 5 mins. One reminder, as this was a used version, I had to remove the metal skirt fasteners and screws.

As the first Super Pershing was built upon the first pilot Pershing production vehicle, a number of other changes are necessary. The Turret featured a split loaders hatch (as early T23 turrets did) so a little filling and cutting is needed. I used a spare loaders hatch to size up a patch from sheet styrene. A resin hatch from Nick Aquilar was used to size the hole needed.

It already runs, so it will be on the field Nov 17th.... Tigers Beware!

Next it is time to handle the barrel. I have club contracted a favor to remove the step from the barrel. To remove it, I undid the turret innards and removed the plastic retainer.

Barrel out and now it is time to improve the turret by sanding seams and backdating the spare track to the pilot version. I used some Tamiya putty to fill the indentations for the later track holders.

3rd AD maintenance personnel added 7 tons of armor to this beast. Step one was a large mantlet plate cut from the glacis of a wrecked Panther. Mine was fabbed by a club member but a bit over size, so I cut it down to fit.

Just got the barrel back from a metal shop, nice!!!

Staples. Back to school special a few years back. Its just a simple one for paper....

Next installment. Tank came with an emitter housing. I placed in the Tamiya muzzle break and have ideas of a flash down the tube too.

Gun tube installed, now time to work on the "equiliberator" on the turret. The longer gun tube needed a additional elevation and recoil balance on the first two vehicles. My club cohort had already started the shock absorbers and I transplanted them to my turret. I used some spare HVSS shock absorbers for the base of the springs and CA ed the rest. Also included in my trade was the metal housing. Bat wings were cut from plastic stock and ground to shape.

Looking good! It's shaping up nicely. Let's hope the driver is just as good as the tank come battle day.

As promised, Super Pershing #1 (in Progress) fought it out with the troops at the battle day. More Work is needed, but it fights pretty good when I dont throw a track.....
