Default Don Torpedochief MUST READ

Hey guys, I have been trying to reach Don to have him come with my son and me on the 3-4 Nov, but no reply....so today I called him.

Don is having some serious problems, has a hard time breathing, has a spinal tap tomorrow and on top of all, the VA has dropped him and he now has to pay for all his meds and treatments.....after being retired from the Navy and serving in the SCNG!! As another slap in the face, they have him on some counselling list...as Don says..."hurry up and die"....just ain't right.

Don would like to come along and meet many guys he knows only thru RCU,. but he just can't make it and sends his best regards.
Be nice for many who have known him thru his Tigers, books & elecronic expertise, to send him a few words of hope and encouragement
Bill

Have Don contact me. We have a National VA group here that takes care of problems like that. I can get him in contact with them.

Hello

I never met him face to face but what little online contact we had, he was ALWAYS nice and friendly and helpful. It`s really sad / pathetic how the Vets are treated by governements nowadays. Don`t care which political side your on, Vets should be treated better then they are now. I hope things get better for you Don. I also really liked your instructional posts as well.

Being a vet also I understand the frustration that he is having. The red tape is really getting sticky nowadays. Let us hope things improve in November.

Folks, lets leave the politics out of this, OK? As a vet myself, we all need to focus our energy on the common good when it comes to VA health care & not on this circus side show called American politics.

I've known Don since meeting him over at Sub Pirates before he got focused on RC tanks & wish him the very best. Is there anyone else there Stateside who can lend a hand?

My prayers are with Don. I also agree that men and women who serve in the Military are owed something. They made the sacrifice and put it all on the line when the country need them. Caring for their needs when they get old or sick is the least we can do.

Thanks for the updates on "The Chief" Bill. I have been trying for several years to get him and you both together at a Danville battle-weekend. Whereas I am thrilled that you and your family will be attending in November, I am saddened to hear that Don's medical condition has further deteriorated. One of the reasons I have enjoyed the hobby and posting messages and so many pix here on RCU was to entertain Don and pay him back for his many humorous and informative RCU posts he has given to all of us.

I refuse to give-up hope on trying ot get him to a Danville tank event. [>:] Pray for his recovery. I know he would just love seeing all the tank and meeting the guys.

Don, I know we haven't spoke much recently, but hang tough! You have a lot of guys out there praying for you and wanting to see you out on the field. I have always looked up to you and wathced your builds with great admiration. You are a hero in the rc tank world, as well as a hero in real life. Your service to your country is so much appreciated...now your country needs to be there for you in your time of need. things need to change, and people need to see that the people in this country who serve, deserve to be treated as heros throughout their lives, not only while in service. Gopd bless you, Chief. We are here waiting for you, brother.

My Dear Dear Brothers,

Yep I'm not doing so hot but remember I'm Tiger Tank Tough! And what helps most is knowing you my brothers are there with me. Yes the VA cut me back, but I am getting the treatment I need. Thanks to you guys I developed the skills I need to build a half decent tank that I could then sell. But, heck when I get better I will rebuild, and like me they will better than the last ones.

I felt ashamed posting on here when I had no tanks. But don't worry I have plenty of ideas still in the ole noddle I need to work on.

So don't worry about me fellas you just keep me entertained with those great builds!!! I'll be watching.

Chief I hope you are feeling better and recover from this. I have you in my prayers. Keep looking at this site and please share your thoughts with us as you see things on this site. From what I have read in your posts you have an eye and keen mind for this R/C tank stuff.

I don't think you should worry about posting here at all, IMHO, all that is needed to post is an interest in RC Tanks.

You're just currently between tanks right now.

Hope thing rally around for you soon.

I think that would be a great idea. Set it up where he can see it when he is stuck in bed.

Don, don't worry about posting here when your motor pool is out of service, we enjoy hearing from you. Take care and check in when you can.

Don, I have attached a couple Tiger color plates for you.

An Abt 506 from the spring of 1944 and an Abt 507 from late 1944.

I think the 507 had a more successful record but I like the 506 unit emblem

Hello All,

Just left Don at work. He is in good spirits but weak physicaly.

Got a grin out of him after I gave him a Tiger 1. He has offered to help me with a couple of tanks I have...Antesian hull KV-1 with SLU and my Bulldog. Great guy and friend. He sends all thanks for teh concern and support from everyone.

I will stay in touch with him and let everyone know what is going on.

Be well,

David

And this is what makes this board and community so special. I have been involved with rc through out my life, but have never seen such a tight knit bond like this group here. Kudos to you dash.

Cheers
