Super Smoker II ~ where to buy?
Looking for one on a little project here and was wondering if anyone could report on it's performance?
Oh yeah... and where to get it from too?

RE: Super Smoker II ~ where to buy?
I bought mine from Phil right before he passed away. He was having them built from an unknown entity and wasn't happy with the solder joints (all of them broke from cold soldering).
It just took a moment to fix it, but I wanted him to be aware of the issue. That was my last communication with him...
But, the Super Smoker II is mounted in my KT in an aluminum frame and IT WORKS AWESOME (hate using that word - but it really explains it).
Here's a video before I had the proportional setup (it's just idling).

Best part of the tank!

Here's my KT with a proportional Supersmoker. I used to make them for Phil, but someone else took over as I couldn't keep up.
I'mvery sad about Phil.
Yellowshaker will be supplying these, I think.

RE: Super Smoker II ~ where to buy?
If you can't find a super smoker anywhere ; you can modify the H.L. unit to improve it's performances ...
It involves replacing the nichrome heater element by a wire wound resistor and putting a mini-fan on top of the piston cylinder ...
It does improve the moke output and reduce the noise ...
Here's a video of the one I've been running in my Pershing since last April :youtu.be/YF2FaNARrf8

Looks pretty satisfactory enough... got any specs or part numbers?
I think I still have one in one of my HL tanks so I wouldn't mind experimenting with it if I find the time. Still would like to see more volume on acceleration.

RE: Super Smoker II ~ where to buy?
The Supersmoker II is really nice as it's quiet. That's a real complaint I had with the HL modified smoker, the sound of the pump was too loud. I burned out the resistor on my SSII and Phil sent over the wiring diagram. It's very simple to build and works amazingly.
I'd prefer to buy the SSII from a vendor here and support them, but if they are not going to be manufactured again and sold at a reasonable price, My intent would be to build several more for my other tanks. They add that much realism.
I can post how it's built at some time if need be. The design is very simple and can be made to produce more smoke with larger fans and dual heating elements - but I'm really hoping someone will build and sell them. I don't want to step on anyone's plans!

The" super smoker II " is still the best option for a bigger volume of smoke ; but if you have an old H.L. unit , the modification should cost you around an extra $20.00 ...
I posted this mod. on another forum last year ....www.rctankwarfare.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php

OH! Talk about throwing a dawg a bone! I'm not able to view any images there and now I am drooling with interest at only investing 20 bucks to modify.
I'm a fairly confident technician, just not much of an engineer so duplicating this project won't be a problem... as long as it's laid out for me.

Bummer!!! I crashed my computer a couple months ago and lost my original pictures ....
Here's an attempt to copy and paiste from and other forum ...

I proceeded with the full mod. of the smoke unit .. Here's a short video and some pictures ... Notice in the video the ease of maintenance provided by the refill probe : When smoke is coming out of the probe , there is around 1/16 " of fluid left in the unit ; just add a full Syringe to refill ... This way you don't need to worry about running dry or overfill ...

RE: Super Smoker II ~ where to buy?
It's combining the best of the fan and the piston design ...
On the back stroke of the piston , the fan is acting as an air-intake valve ; so heat and smoke don't get sucked into the cylinder like it does for the stock unit .
On the forward stroke ; the piston and the fan combine to push the smoke out ...
It does improve the smoke output , while reducing the work load of the pumping system ; thus reducing the noise ...
As for reliability ' I put a unit in my Pershing last April , I ran it all summer ; and it's still running ...
I personally like the pulsating effect given by the piston , because I believe it looks more like a piston engine ; compare to the continuous output of a fan ; wich is more like a jet engine ...
But when you drive your tank outside ; the difference gets blown in the wind ...

RE: Super Smoker II ~ where to buy?
I have given some thoughts for a while ; but concluded that I wouldn't have the time to do that between my job and family ....
Furthermore; the recent passing of Phil is flashing like a red warning light in front of my eyes ; since we were both suffering from similar " engine" problems..
I don't think that stressing myself to meet a deadline for a customer would do me any good ...So I take my hobby slow and relax ...
The mod. itself is rather easy : It requires the addition of a 5 Volts mini fan ( I buy mine from this site :www.ebay.ca/sch/redflagpower/m.html
Then you need a wire wound resistor ( around 14 OHMS 1Watts) from this site :http://www.surplussales.com/Resistor.../WW10-169.html
(look for this value )RWF) W81S14.7 14.7 ohm 1% 1w W81S Wire Wound Resistor
(look for this value )RWF) W81S14.7 14.7 ohm 1% 1w W81S Wire Wound Resistor
1.00
And finally , a kevlar cord ( for wick) that you can get here :www.firemecca.com/p-695-kevlar-r-cord.aspx

RE: Super Smoker II ~ where to buy?
Does anyone have any info as to how to make the connections? (what wires go where?) I got one from Phil, but he passed away before I could get the connection info.
I got it mounted in one of my Jagdpanthers and it sits on my work bench as I write this.
Rest well in Peace Phil buddy...
