IDF Invades Danville
On 2 Nov, 7 tanks from Zahal (Israel Defense Force) rolled into Danville. The detachment was comprised of two M-51s, two M-50s, an M-1 Super sherman, an M-3 (M-4A3 75mm) and a Magach (M-48A5). All were accurate models of specific IDF tanks. The Magach was a static model and not yet RCd, and only the two M-51s and and one M-50 were IR battle ready, so the entire unit was not able to deploy as a cohesive unit. Some technical issues between DBU and TBU and bad batteries held us up and none of my tanks were set up IAW Danville standards, so a bit of time was spent to get us rolling. My son Chris also took part running both M-51s and we both enjoyed the weekend with a bunch of really great guys and meet with a few I knew only thru RCU. A special thanks to Bob and James for thier help.
My primary interest was to sell off most of my armor and it worked out ok. I also wore my IDF uniform, unit 188th Barak (lightning) Brigade, rank Rav saval rishon (master Sgt TC). Don't believe so many IDF tanks were ever at Danville before and was able to answer many questions about the IDF and Israel.
Thanks for a nice weekend, guys..

RE: IDF Invades Danville
Thanks so much for attending Bill. I was great to see and old friend back at Danville. We had about 4 tankers who had been M I A for a few years return for the November event. Your tanks are , as ususal, loaded with detail and very unique. I hope you will visit again soon. I really wish I had more time to speak with you and Chris. I was very busy runing the event. I so looked forward to your visit. The 3 tanks I bought from you got back safely in one piece to NJ. Even the 1/16 diorama was intact. I really wish John Hay had made it but he had flooding at his home in NOVA and couldn't attend. I had hoped to get two "REAL" US Tank Commanders together on the 1/16 Field of Honor at Danville. I'm glad you had so much sucess in selling your tank creations. I hope the new owners will appreciate them as much as we did. I know the AAF Tank Musuem will long cherish the scale military dioramas that you generously donated.
Thank your son Chris again for making your trip easier than expected. It could have only been better in Don "Torpedo Chief" had made the trip with you. I hope to see you back in the Spring at the Extravaganza.
Shalom, Bob Held, NEAD CO
