Thanks Guys x
Treated myself to a little present yesterday... ok been saving for ages, but love my little yellow box. <3 Got myself one of these........
http://www.jperkinsdistribution.co.u...Multiplex%20RC
Lots of functions to get working on the tank , each Sponson has three servos in them. That's before you get motor control, sound, gun effect, smoke unit and on this mark of tank... a lifting/turning tail steering assembly on the back.
On the 3D printing side of things, I have been working on the Ram System that lifts the Tail Steering Unit. I'm constantly amazed at the parts the MakerBot Printer can produce, once that is you work out how best to break the parts down to print.

As I stated on your thread over on the Landships forum, I bet the folks from Armortek are green with envy at your detailing. That is some excellent work, Helen!

Awww don't be rotten! I've had 9 years of research and plan making on my MK1 Tank... that's before the fact I started this project about two years ago. Companies normally have ridiculously short idea to production times, they also have to make a profit at the end of it, all this forces them to make compromises. I've seen the the Armortek model at Bovington and seen the video of it running, it looks great and I think the owners of these kits will be more than happy.
There's a lot of conversions you can do to a MKIV Tank, it will be interesting to see what they come up with.
Anyhow, todays minor/major news, is the radio works fine inside the model. Part of me knew it should be ok, but I couldn't help but worry about getting a good signal inside a metal covered box.

Just thought I had better add to this thread, I've not been updating it as I should.
Thanks for all the nice comments, always good to get a bit of encouragement.
The model reached a major build point a few days ago, the first set of tracks went on and in a few weeks the second and the first run should happen.
To add a little detail I drew up a little fitting set and had them printed by Shapeways. These are now fitted and I now have opening doors and hatches. As well as the show off element of working doors, they do also enable me to hide away unscale switches for the working side of things.
The Track was a long, long job. I managed to find a great little casting firm who managed to turn my 3D prints into aluminium Track Links. Then I Member on Landships posted how he built the track for his 1/16 scale model and I managed to scale it all up for this 1/6 scale build. Lots of hard work later and I have my scale track I wanted.
I managed to take a few photos yesterday when displaying it at the Abingdon Air Show, but they are not to good. Should have some better ones soon.

Hi,
Not added to this for quit some time. The Tank has had its second run just recently at the Southern Model Show, got a bit wet and I suffered the embarrassment of a flat battery... enjoyed it though.
Link to video of Second Run
Right now I am trying my best to get the Tail Assembly at least attached and looking right for the Model Show at Bovington Tank Museum in just a few weeks time.

Thanks Guys!
Yes P it's a model of the first Tank to go into action. From the day I first entered Bovington Museum I fell in love with the MK1 Tank and decided to make some plans that looked more like the real thing than those around at the time. The model has taught me a lot about drawing, 3D Printing and Modelling in general... loved the process.

I wish more modelers, especially in the larger scales would focus on tanks of this era. I missed the opportunity several years ago to get a great basis
for one of these in 1/10 scale. I still regret not jumping on that chance... :-(

Oh noooo!!! Did it shrink? Ok, I know its a micro armor towing the "Tail" assembly. As always, nice work Helen!!! Are you going to leave your Landship in a metal scheme or paint it?

The model will stay in metal finish for the Tank Model Show at Bovington in a week or two, after that it will go into a strip down and paint over the winter. It will start next year in Navy Grey to represent how they first rolled out the factory. Some time next year I will camouflage the model. Going to have fun weathering the paint finish.

It will look great when you paint it. I like the scheme from the Movie "War Horse". Camo would look good as well. Keep sending us your updates. It is a wonderful thing to live vicariously through your work in the 1/6th world. I have 1/6th Stuart that has been languishing in my motor pool. Your work is making me think it is not that far fetched to give it a go!!!

The Tank has had a couple of runs now. Still not quite finished but close enough for now. Here is a link to the FaceBook page with a couple of videos showing the model in action.
Hope you like!

are the rivets real or simulated? so impressed with the level of detail from any angle. truly a work of art, couldn't imagine having the skill set to do something like this. I have enough trouble with plastic model kits, and I have been doing those for over 50 years

Ummm... Yes & No... The panels are all Laser cut and I had the holes for the rivets cut too. The rivets are real Aluminium 5mm Diam head, 3mm Diam shaft, but they are just glued in place no properly riveted. It does though help line all the panels up and adds to the strength when they're epoxied the the wooden main frame.
It was all designed on the computer and basically I took a leap of faith with the Wood and Ali Plate build method. Trust me there was lots of trial and definitely error in this build. Some parts are version 5... 6... 7 or so!
Glad you like it, Thanks x

Hi All,
Just a few photos from the Model Show at Bovington Tank Museum last week. Managed to get the Tail Wheels on, not working but at least giving the model a more finished look.
Had a great time and look forward to the next outing.
Just deciding on the Grey paint for the winter refit and paint work.

thanks for the rivet answer, still and impressive display of detail and skill. couldn't imagine having that level under my belt. I have enough problems with plastic kit models, even though been modeling for over 55 years. I have several uncompleted models, some going back for years. I get to a certain point, and run out of skill and/or patience to finish. especially with hard to fit parts that you will know will never be seen once put together.
so that's why I enjoy admiring you master builders at work. like looking at fine art work to this viewer

Since posting last I managed to get the model out for a bit of off roading... didn't last long as I blew a fuse and realised I had none with me! Was fun while it lasted.
Also finally got round to posting on the Pololu Forum who's products and help was fundamental in getting the Sponsons moving. The Post can be found here... http://forum.pololu.com/viewtopic.ph...p=46545#p46545
