RE: M41 turret on M26 pershing
Mario, I have never heard of that arrangement,. but on the flip side, the T-42 turret of the M-47 was originally designed for the M-41. Due to the korean War priority showing the need for a better medium tank, the T-42 was mounted on an M-46 and one test tank was designated M-46E1. It was decided to go with an improved chassis, hence the M-47. A newer, welded plate turret with the 76mm gun which we see on all M-41s replaced the T-42 turret. Using the M-41 turret on a Pershing would be going backwards in firepower as well as armor protection, although it would have added a few more main gun rounds in the basic load.

think that is a m47.....with a cargo box on the rear of the turret....the turret is cast and that is the 90mm gun.

Yeah... that's my M-47 tank. Wish someone would pop a few of those out!

Bill should probably look away now...
Doesn't look too bad, from orbit, after 10 pints of Stella... [&:]
90mm variant looks a bit rough tho...

Hi Rex
You mean 'doesn't look good' as in not possible?
Looking at that, makes me wonder about converting an M41 turret into a M47 turret - raising the height of the turret, then using bog around the base of the turret for the increased armour thickness. Use the M26 mantlet & gun, though you'd have to reduce the width of the mantlet, but keep the lifting rings,
Have to look at some scale plans to see how close it is.
Don't have a spare M41 turret on hand, but interesting to think about....

Mal ....
Maybe it's just the angle of the photo, but to me it looks like the turret would overlap those hatches even if the turret rotated 45 degrees (or more) to the right or left. Maybe the type of hatch covers that elevate straight up a few inches and then rotate horizontally would be better (like on the Abrams).

I agree.....I think it looks bad-assh! is it a direct fit with the turret ring and what not?
