RE: just started m32 Recovery Vehicle
Hope you are going to change the suspension system. M-32 had the VVSS up to the
M-32A1B3 which used the "easy 8" chassis and most of the lifting/towing gear from the 32's to handle the heavier M-26 and M-46 tanks which the M-32 didn't have the power to pull. The boom was modified to be pulled up with the internal winch, so the bracket on the right side boom arm was eliminated and spare wheels, sprockets etc were for the heavier 90mm gun medium tanks. This is the only Sherman based VTR with the VVSS until the M-74 appeared in 1955. All M-32s had VVSS with the standard 11 inch single chevron track. [&o]

The M32 at Ft knox is a very late 1945 M-32B1 on the A1 chassis. Not many of these made, with most built on the A3 chasis for internal stowage reasons. It shows en effort though, to get some power to drag in the "new" M-46 and M-47 tanks. This was probably one made to use with NG units who had lots of M-4A1E8s through the 1950s. The A1's had lots less space inside, which was a common complaint and the molded contours didn't help all that much on deflecting shells. If you have a 1;16 A1 chassis, great...like to see one rolling. Where do you find M-4A1 hulls? [X(]

Here's another pic but this one HAS a welded hull AND the HVSS.

I don't know, I think the HVSS looks better and at least it's a functional system. Either way, I can't wait to see more pics of your build. Looks like you and I are building with an A1 hull at the same time!
Post more when you can!

Jeff, do you know where this VTR is located? It has a lot of missing parts. One of the road wheel carriers on the upper superstructure is missing, as is the upright bar and pulley for raising the boom. The road wheel carrier looks like a smaller one for a Sherman. Doesn't look to be in real bad shape though.

RE: just started m32 Recovery Vehicle
who has the VVSS simulation kits? Narrower tracks available with these? Wouldn't do much good to build on VVSS and still have the 23 inch dbl chevron track....doesn't match. [&o]

Theres an M-32 with VVSS and i believe a welded hull about 30 minutes from where i live. Its at an army surplus store being used as a sign. Aside from the boom minssing it still has all the extra parts and repair fittings installed. If you want i can pop up there tomorrow and get some pics. I dont really rememebr if its a welded or cast hull.

I went and got the pics BUT it turns out that it is a welded hull not cast hull. I did manage to get some pics of the winch through the top of the turret for you. If you want i can post some external ones too ust to help you get an idea of how the spare parts were mounted. I tried to get pics of everything. Let me know what you want overal and ill post the ones closest.
If you had stuck with the Tamia hull this would have been perfect aside from this tank having VVSS instead of HVSS.
