Metal road wheels and hull for Panzer IV /question/
Ive just recived ordered /rctank.de/ Paner IV metal lower hull and wheels but have some questions about assembled such set. Maybe somebody could help?
- there are 8 washers atached - see no 2 - where they should be used?
-a time ago Ive ordered also separately a set of metal road wheels and swing arms - there was springs attached - see no 3 on the picture - now with just ordered metal lower hull there was the same swing arms but without any springs - are they necessary?
- how to assembly road wheels - see no 1 - there are no any proper screws - only items shown on picture 2.jpg.
none of screws from the attached bag /they are showed on the picture 2 - black and white/
dont fit the holes in swing arms - both screws (black and white) have non metric thread
the holes in swing arms have 2,5 mm holes with metric thread

Number "3" in picture "1" is part of the suspension assembly. You need to use the self tapping silver screws to secure the wheel. The washer, "2" in picture "1", may need to go between the wheel and the suspension assembly before you put the wheel on the axle?
I have the replacement suspension for the Panzer IV from Asiatam. I will dig it out and look at this as it is the same set you have in Picture "1".

Try this thread. It's a pretty detailed review of someone's work putting together the same thing. http://www.rc-panzerketten-forum.eu/...threadid=36180
There's also a couple of reviews on www.heng-long-panzerforum.com. But, you have to be a member to get access and I can't seem to get them to grant me membership. Maybe you'll have better luck.
Keep posting pics and feedback on your experience, though. I'm considering this hull and I'm trying to see what other people's experiences are so that I can make an informed decision.

Are the leaf springs very stiff? I find that in my metal suspension they are too stiff and the wheels act more like rockers than suspension.. Funny because the HL springs are too WEAK and flex too much..!
That's why I let my PnzIV sit on its wheels.. might soften them a bit.

Looking good. Are those the Asiatam roadwheels or the Taigen wheels? I'm guessing Asiatam since the return rollers are the later steel rollers. But, I figured I'd ask.
Did you have to make the rubber tires a little thinner to fit?
Yellowshaker, the Asiatam PzIV hull doesn't come with the wheels...just the road wheel carriages.

Strato50 - You are right springs in my hull are very stiff too.
yellowshaker - Yes its Panzer IV lower hull. Suspension is not assembled but its delivered together with lower hull and gearboxes. Road , sprocket and idler wheels are not included in metal hull set - its needed to order them separately
philipat - I checked in rctank.de - my road wheels are from Asiatam . As I see there are two types available
Set1 "Asiatam" version
http://www.rctank.de/METAL-WHEEL-KIT-PANZER-IV
Set2 "Taigen" version
http://www.rctank.de/Metal-road-whee...tire-Panzer-IV
Panzer IV accesories
http://www.rctank.de/PANZER-IV_11
Panzer IV aluminium lower hull + gearboxes
http://www.rctank.de/Panzer-IV-alumi...hull-gearboxes
1x aluminum lower hull
1x roller trolleys
1x countershaft
1x supporting role holder
1x track tensioning system
1x exhaust system made from aluminum
1 x Flat gear
Rubber tires fits perfectly so it was not needed to correct them

Philipat the Taigen Panzer IV road wheels do not have the "Continental" on the rubber or the metal guards on the inside to protect the rubber from the track guide horns. The Asiatam set has these details. I have a set of both.

Yelloshaker, just for the hull it will run about $203 U.S. and shipping is about $35-40 U.S., so roughly $238-243? Current exchange rate euro to dollar.

Thanks, guys. All good information. I didn't know those small differences between the Taigen and Asiatam wheels. Maus45, do you have the Taigen return rollers? I'm planning an Ausf G and need the ones with rubber tires. Unfortunately, it looks like Asiatam only makes the steel rollers.

Philipat, the Taigen Panzer IV road wheel set is good for the Panzer IV F1, F2, G, or early H. That is the reason I got my set. It has the rubber return rollers, I am going to do either a G or an early H.

I was thinking about the details of the Asiatam tires/wheels for the metal guard and lettering. Is the metal guard critical? Lack of lettering on Taigen's noticable? I think the Taigen wheels have ball bearings and the Asiatam wheels don't. That would be a huge selling point. (At least, I think I read somewhere that the Taigen wheels have ball bearings.)

I will take some comparison photos so you can see the difference between the two when I get home tonight from work. I do know that both do not have bearings. Now the Taigen idlers have bearings and so do the Asiatam late H/J idlers. Maybe that will change as the Taigen KV replacement early and late have bearings.

Here ya go Philipat.... Sorry I couldn't pry the Aisatam wheels apart so you could see the inside halves.

MAUS45...thanks for the pictures. I like the detail and inner ridge on the Asiatam wheels. But, I want the F/G return rollers that Taigen has. Do the hubs come off on the Taigen wheels?
Quandries...

Philipat, the hubs or hub caps do not come off the Taigen wheels. I understand your quandary. I purchased the Taigen wheels for the same purpose. I want to do a F2 or G Panzer IV and they are the only parts set with the rubber return rollers.

I found that both metal sprocket wheels in my Panzer IV are faulty - see atached picture - they are not symetric - the additional wobbling has occured - Have you experienced the same problem?

Gearboxes look good. Glad to see that the steel gearboxes fit. The listing on rctank.de seems to show the brass ones that Asiatam sells. Did it come with these instead?
BTW...you'll need to flip the front tow brackets. They should be angled inwards.
