Looking for transmission recommendations for Taigen PzIV F2
I recently purchased Taigen's pro series PzIV F2 from Artistic Hobbies. The drive sprockets and idlers that were installed on it were plastic and I managed to destroy one of the drive sprockets within 10 minutes. Fortunately it came with Taigen's spare metal drive sprockets and idlers so I changed them all out. Now I'm looking to slow this tank down as it really zips along and I'm looking for some 4:1 transmissions that will just drop in.
Recommendations?

Steel gearboxes below will fit the Panzer IV, because they are lower.
Unfortunatelly they are not "4:1" but "2:1" only.
They have one pinion gear less so the total gear ratio is smaller (aprox. two times smaller)

Sorry but mentioned steel "4:1" gearboxes will NOT fit the Panzer IV ! They are too high.

In my Taigen Panzer IV I used mentioned "2:1" steel gearboxes

with shorter Mato motors and with additional ZUH19 Schumo gear reductions

Ahhh, see that is the thing. The metal lower hull for the Panzer IV is something we don't carry. There isn't enough space with the metal lower hull to fit inside. The plastic lower hull sits a bit lower and allows it to fit. I'll get some pics in a few, I'm currently fixing a few tanks.

Ok so if you look at the gearbox pictures, the one on the left is the High mounted gearbox. It has its drive axle removed so I can easily test what tanks can fit what gearboxes. As you all know the P3/P4 gearboxes aren't exactly fun to remove anyways
The gearbox is not a steel gearbox, but the profile is the same. The only difference is the gears inside the gearbox. I mounted it in, and shut the tank and screwed it back together and it fits fine. It is VERY close to the top of the upper hull but won't harm anything. Hope this helps

I am in the process of building an L70 and I tried a bunch of different set ups and still couldn't get low enough with regular gear sets so I broke down and bought Asiatam low profile 4 in 1's. Absolutely beautiful set of gears and low enough for ANYTHING you want to build...

Taigen 4:1 steel gears will fit the Panzer IV without any issues.
Infact they're a HECK of a lot easier to install than stock gearboxes because the frame profile is a bit smaller. They don't get snagged on that middle-front post, which was a huge PITA

Sorry It was my mistake - You are right they will fit . I tried once again and after some tries with my Panzer IV lower hull - its really very close but posssible. I based on opinions from rctank.de they claimed that its impossible

Thanks!
I like the magnets! The hull screw system on the pro series is a royal pain. Where did you get them and how secure is the top hull?

That tank uses 6 rare earth 1/4" magnets, and several of my other tanks that still use HL plastic hulls use 4, 6 or 8 of them. I get 50 magnets for $10 at the local Lee Valley Hobby.
6 is enough to 'almost' hold the lower hull together when I pick up the tank by the upper hull under the track guards... a BIG bump or flipping the tank over can dislodge it but generally during battles and driving around it never falls off :P
