those tracks were very commen in the ardennes with M10's etc don't know their name

Just to clarify...the Sherman is on the left of the picture....I measured it up and the Chaffee was at most 7mm too long..this was unavoidable with the chassis I used. I can live with that

I think that if you used the M26 front sprockets it will look much better. Great job still but the PzIII sprockets look just a little too big for it.

.....but if I used M26 sprockets, I'd have to have used M26 tracks, making it far too wide like the HL Bulldog
..this is why I did not enjoy this build........

I'd love an Allied tank the size of the Chaffee to battle the Pzr III or IV. I could live with the incorrect sprockets. You could have spent a lot of time making perfect sprockets…. that were one-offs. What would happe if they got damaged? Something to be said for readily available spare parts.

Thats exactly what happened to my Stuart on it's last battleday. She lost a pin on the bogie but as it was a standard HL Sherman part, 5 mins repair, she's good to go......

Would it be possible to narrow the M26 sprockets? I haven't taken a look at them so I don't know.

It may be possible, but then you've also got to rework the teeth to work with panzer 3 track...then again you've got the whole spares/repair issue. As it was I was building her as a reliable battle version of a tank that's not produced, using stock running gear, she was never going to be 100% accurate, but like I have already said the constant negative comments I had regarding how I built her really spoiled the "build" so much so I just sold her on.

I agree with your thoughts about this ..... in any case, you can't see the design of the sprocket when the tank is running ....... so how it looks doesn't matter, at least to me in this case.

As far as I'm concerned you did an excellent job and the Chaffee looks very sharp.

Also looking at your Stewart I know that's a tank I'd love to drive into our next battle, does it have a build thread?

Don't let anyone on a forum discourage your efforts. Your builds are always good, and the speed in which you get things done is amazing. Far better to do and learn, with results to show, then to get bogged down in details that result in nothing.

I appreciate the meticulous detail for those that put the time in to do it, but equally I enjoy the stand off efforts as well. I myself lean more to the stand off, as these are built to run, The fact you are battling with a Stuart and a Chaffee says it all to me,. A key thing with an RC tank is the availability of spare parts. Your approach makes the efforts very saleable. People know they can easily get the spare parts if they need them. A custom built, one off approach would never create that confidence. Well done I say. Your logic is rock solid.

My thoughts exactly Dan. How many times have you read "I wish they did a Hellcat or Chaffee or Stuart....". My Stuart is about 95% accurate, it wouldn't stand up as museum quaility but it's damn fun to battle with and I believe it's the only battle ready one built to date, the only others I've seen have just been resin conversion "runners".

I like your Chaffee.
I built a Chaffee in 2008 and tried to equip it with a totally new secret propulsion device that I was trying to develop without electric motors and electronic boards. It was not battle equipped, but it was going to be a runner.


Sadly, my efforts to invent something new was a failure and I was forced to abandon my revolutionary propulsion project.

Thankfully, my Hellcat and Stuarts turned out a little bit better with conventional R/C gear.

I could hardly see why anyone would make a negative post or comment about it. I thought it was an excellent project and i really enjoyed it. I love the M24 and you did an outstanding job on it. I would have bought it from you no questions asked.
