Hopefully it will still be at Danville and we see you there. I know they are all excited about the move, and I am too in a way. I believe it will be a much better venue location for the museum. I'm not looking forward to the drive to Ohio though, 7 hrs. one way for me. I hope to have at least two of the Hetzers done by September. I'll keep plugging away on them until then. I will post more as I get it done.

Herman are you having metal Drive Sprockets and Idlers made or are you waiting on a company to release them?

I am having a set made at the present. Not very fast response however. I would happily buy some from Asiatam, Mato, etc. if they would come out with them.

Who is making the sprockets and idlers for you? Are they one offs? Would they make more?

A local machine shop in Winston Salem is supposed to be doing them. He says he is open to do more, but I haven't seen the first set yet. I told him that others may be interested in them, but he wants confirmed orders. If they are good, then we will see about a larger number. Not going to be cheap either I'm afraid. This first set is $80.00.

The cosmetics for the upper hulls have been completed except for two MG 34's. I am trying to find two plastic ones instead of the commonly offered metal ones. Well, here are the four amigos with their lipstick and rouge on for you.

Herman, Is the $80 for a set of sprockets and idlers? Will these fit the metal Asiatam tracks? If so that is not to bad. Keep me posted as I am interested.

That is what I am having made. Set of sprockets and idlers to fit the metal Asiatam track. Sprockets will fit HL low profile gearboxes, and idlers will fit the PZ III / StuG, adjustable idler mechanism screw. Still have not heard back from them. If I have heard nothing by Wednesday I will try a different source for them. I will keep you informed. Anybody else interested? I think the more we have made the lower the price may be.

Well I picked up the sprockets and idlers yesterday. I knew that I would have to do some work to fit everything anyway, but I am still a bit disappointed in the result. I knew I would have to sharpen the sprockets teeth, but they will still need additional massaging as they still do not engage the tracks properly. WIP. The idlers are also having to have some work done to them. They have to be counter bored so the screw goes through them and the head fits in it. Another WIP. I may have to see if I can find another shop willing to do small jobs.

I was hoping for better as well? Are they in two parts or two halves to each sprocket and idler?

No, they are all one piece. I did manage to find and talk to another machinist who seems to be more enthusiastic over this than the other shop was. I will be going to see him on Monday morning. He is a bit farther away, but our conversation was very encouraging.

Yes, I thought they were one piece. Thanks for confirming. Looks like they turned them and the drilled them. No facing for detail. I am glad you found another shop that seems to be more enthusiastic. Keep us posted. I am still interested. Thanks, Rudy

Yeah, I don't really feel like they put $80 worth of work into those...

I don't think they did either. I am still working on trying to salvage them and it looks promising anyway. I will still have to see what the new machinist has to say Monday.
