Sherman variant kits?
Does anyone make kits to change out the 105 sherman to a 75mm or 76? I know Mato has a 76 but they aren't available at this time and Mato doesn't have a date for new ones. Tamiya's are out there but I can't afford one.
Also, why are there so many 105's? They weren't the most plentiful of the sherman types by far. Is it do to the fact that an airsoft BB won't fit through a 75 barrel? At any rate thanks for any help.

Nick Aguilar makes some conversion turrets. He doesn't really have a site that I know of but you can contact him here [email protected]

As to why the 105 is so numerous, the story I've heard is that back in the 70's when Tamiya was creating their original Sheman kit, there was a 105 HVSS tank on display near the factory,. Tamiya being a stickler for accuracy, used version that was readily available.
Nick Aguilar (fire nick on RCUniv) has created some modifications. You can always try PM.
Here is a link to Nick's M36 Jackson turret for the Tamiya 105 HVSS.

YES! Contact Nick with any Sherman related modeling parts needs! Not only is he a fantastic guy with a great personality, but his parts are TOP NOTCH as I should know... I have most of them.
If you have the Heng Long Sherman with the 105MM gun, you can quickly turn it into a 75MM gunned with his M34A1 mantlet and aluminum barrel kit as it will work with the high bustle turret and big hatch hull.
Or for a 76MM Sherman (M4A3), his T-23 turret kit will get you going REAL QUICKLY with the existing VVSS Sherman.
Or for something completely different, the M36B1 will give you that tank destroyer look with a 90MM gun turret kit.
He does have the M4A1 upper hull conversion kit too. It's designed for the Tamiya lower hull but I am sure he can assist you to fit it to the HL chassis, as this can make a REAL NEAT vehicle either way... 75 or 76 gun.
AND FINALLY, he does have a M4A3E2 JUMBO conversion with a complete up-armored T-23 with the 75MM gun, and if you don't want to convert the upper hull, he has that as well.
If you have any questions, ideas or need help... feel free to contact me as I know a thing or two about the above vehicles. And of course, PLEASE contact Nick for the the parts. He will tell you up front if he is temporarily out of stock and how long it will take to make it or get the stock for the kit.

Here some of the model you could build with Tamiya/Mato/HL/Nick parts, and of course there are much more.

Sounds like this is the place to get an answer I've been looking for. The only reason I don't have a Sherman in the motor pool is because I can't find an EASY 8!!! Can any of you guys tell me where to get an easy 8?

@maxu52, try the link below. It is the AFF Museum in Danville or ebay?

Hey Maus, Thanks, cool site, and they have the M51 but didn't spot an E-8.
Thanks to you, as well, Benny, and I'm more than capable of conversion (45 years of static, maybe the last 15 at museum quality level) but I was looking for something more complete than that to start with. So what do you guys recommend as a good Sherman to start with? I'm fairly sure no one has ever put out a Sherman that came as an E-8 right from the start. If that's wrong I'd be very pleased to hear that.
And since I have this talent available, what does anyone know about the Meillerwagen Convoy? I don't want to hijack the thread so if that question rings any bells I'd appreciate a PM with details. I'm looking to build the entire convoy, and so far all I've found is the Opel Blitz for fuel (and maybe to pull a liquid O2 trailer). Maybe I should start a thread on that topic.

Here are some old photos of an out of production Easy 8 kit for the Tamiya Sherman. It consists mainly of the turret, main gun, and rear deck/engine grill. I do believe that Nick Aguliar (from TheBennyB's email) has made most if not all the major parts you would need. I just contacted him yesterday, so the address is valid. In my opinion, Nick's castings are cleaner than the old kit shown.
Good luck

Thanks Ksoc, do you know if those would only go on a Tamiya or could they go on a mato all metal? Do you know if Nick sells all the components together as a kit like in your pics? Didn't the E8 have different tracks? Wider, maybe? Man, I got some research to do. :-(

Here is a source for the T66 track in metal (Kenny Kong)

Nick can answer best about his product, but as far as I now it is based on Tamiya hulls. His work is usually involves the hull plus the gun (alum).
If you look closely, you will see there is no hull MG or Tools. Those, along with other odds and ends will most likely would come from the donor tank.
I am currently purchasing a Jumbo kit that the resin and gun barrel shown in the first pict. I will be providing the Tamiya Tub and Mato VVSS suspension. (both photos by Nick Aguilar)

After all that talk about the T66 being the standard E8 track, I run across this photo in Armored Attack 1944 (Steven Zaloga - recommended)
A E8 at Bastone, with the T80 (Tamiya) Track

I totally agree, that's a great photo. Tell me about the background? Are those scale buildings or was this photoshopped? If they are scale, where did you get them?

The buildings were by one of the German clubs that attended the Munster museum show in June - I've no idea who owned them, I just parked my Sherman under the canopy and took the picture...
That fine dirt you see in the picture is great stuff to drive on, and 'weathers' your tank a treat - only problem is if you loose a track end connector, you will never find it again!
(hence why it was parked up under there on the Sunday with a broken track - always bring spares, my friends...)
