Default Question about TBU #53447

Does the TBU #53447 come with a clip on emitter for mounting to the barrel of the main gun?

The TBU (53447) comes with a mounting bracket for installing the emitter in the mantlet of the Tiger 1 kit. The various barrel clips for other tanks are contained in the respective tank kits (exceptions being the Tiger 1 and the Leo 2a6)

If you find yourself needing one let me know.

I may have one floating around here somewhere and it YOURS!

I am converting my HL Pz III H to be Tamiya compatible. It'll have a scale short 50 mm barrel. Does it makes sense to fab up my own holder to clip to the barrel?

The emitter is 5mm, and IIRC, fits inside a .25" styrene tube (available at your local hobby shop) stock quite nicely (snug and secure friction fit).

I installed mine in a short bit of tubing glued into in the mantlet (there was plenty of room in the Pz III) (I shamelessly copied Panther F's original idea for the emitter mount in the mantlet). That way, I was able to have flash (Panzer 3 N has the short 75).

I like the flash.

Jeff, Is the 0.25" tube flush with the mantlet or protruding? I tried to make mine flush, but the slot I cut for clearance in the plate behind the mantlet was visible when the gun was depressed. I didn't like that look

It sticks out, but I can live with it. The only tank I've got that has the room for a flush fit emitter tube is the Tamiya Panther.

Thanks Jeff. Can you please send a photo of what your emitter tube looks like installed on the Pz III?

Here's what it looks like. It's got Tamiya electronics in it.

Stock Tamiya emitter is in the round tube, just to the right of the cannon.

Thanks for the picture Jeff. Did you have to cut a vertical slot in the plate behind the mantlet as clearance for the tube, emitter, or emitter wiring?

Yep, I drilled a pilot hole, and then took a Dremmel to it to make it big enough.
