"Have you ever seen an Abrams parked outside a hobby show?"
Yes, back when the buzz was a Tamiya 1/16 rc Abrams was in the works.

First pic of the tank. Trying to find more information. I can see that the tank commander figure has Asian features, the M2 machine gun has been modernized, and it has bespoke tracks.

Attack Tx/Rx, looks like they're displaying barrel stabilization, seems like another solid model kit from them.
It doesn't fit my interest, but I wouldn't say no to one either, I'm just glad to see them putting out stuff so soon after the JS-2.

This may not suit everyone but I have to say it looks very interesting and also well detailed model, top marks to Tamiya for this model now let’s see a Chinese company reproduce this tank.
As for the so called M1 in 1/16 scale and Tamiya being asked rather a lot of €uroes for the rights to build this model I think this is a load of tosh invented by board modellers with no sense of imagination for Tamiya already has some kind of agreement with the 1/35 scale M1 they make having this extended to 1/16 scale probably would fall within the licence, this rather reminds me of the rumours surrounding the production of a Panther for 3 years when Tamiya did produce the Panther it was admitted that the tank was produced in a rush within a 12 month time scale meaning all the rumours where rubbish.

If we learned Japanese, probably what they say would actually be informative. It does sound nice, and I like that the headlights are yellow and not some unrealistic xenon-ish white.

I'm taking note.
The tank moves flawlessly and, well... it's a tank and it's not all about WWII either.

I just asked one of my Japanese friend to help for a pre-order of 1/16 RC Type 10

I'm sure it will grow on westerners. Since a significant part of RC tank modeling and operations is 'role playing' ( face it ) we're all just
up to our own designs as to how to utilize this latest offering. I haven't been interested in modern armor much but I'm beginning to warm up to
at as a modelling subject.
Imagination sets you free. Even though Tamiya's two modern MBT's are representatives of Allied nations who knows what combat scenarios are to be
dreamed up. There have yet to be suitable foes for the German and now Japanese MBTs save for the Chinese MBT.

Looks like a nice tank. I bet those that are interested will love it.
Here is a thought. Perhaps this tank has international buyers in a few years. Suddenly it is not just for the Japanese market.

Well I'm hoping to get one when it comes out! As far as modern tanks go I prefer it to the Leo and Abrams (Chally is still my favourite though).
it could be done through skilled control but I'm hoping the heading hold is a feature! Maybe there will be barrel stabilisation if we are lucky.

Heh - don't you mean better barrel stabilisation? The one on the leo 2 is awesome for big movement but is to slow to keep up with the small jolts and jars of a 1:16 scale kit.
Watching that video again, it moves and behaves very much like the Leopard 2. I'd put money on it having a very similar if not the same construction, gearbox assembly and electronics.
BTW the discussions about rights and licensing: If you get a license to make a static 1:35 kit from a manufacturer, you can't always reuse it for another scale or type of model. It's probably why Tamiya has 1:35 Abrams but can't do a 1:16, because it would be a different contractual agreement and some US defence firms have a bit of a history when it comes to not giving out licenses without serious kick backs, even on historical vehicles .

looks pretty sweet to me.
has some PE in the kit
moves nice, esp the turret, but that could be a very skilled operator
when the turret stops rotating, it even appears to jolt back and forth just a tiny bit, like a real turret
also appears to have cast metal suspension arms, the Leo2 come w/ plastic
i wonder what material the low hanging skirts are made of?
they appear to be on their own sprue, which could mean they are rubber-like, which would be really nice
If they are hard plastic, that would not provide a whole lot of clearance on rough terrain
i am sure they can be left off, but they look cool
gonna cost a pretty penny i am sure

of the driver. Along the way, the Tamiya person advertises the new tank a bit, explains how the tank sound effects are sampled from a real one.
Here is an interesting thing: the driver model is made by 3D scanning the JGSDF officer who shows up at round 27:00~30:00 in the full-length clip of the
Tamiya Fair 2014:

Near 30:00, the Tamiya person asks the female anchor to take a close look at the face of the JGSDF officer.

The female anchor basically says she is impressed by many details of the tank: the sound effects, tank movement, gun firing/recoil, and the look
of the driver. Along the way, the Tamiya person advertises the new tank a bit, explains how the tank sound effects are sampled from a real one.
