Rivet and panther, the OP was about the new release of a 1/16 scale model that will keep our hobby fun. Can we get back to that and lay off the who has a better tank and which country is more mature? This is an international forum and there are plenty of members here from all over the world.

Chunwai sells a set of metal tracks for the M1A2 with sprocket for $102 plus shipping. They have the correct guide horns for an A2 and my Leopard tracks I bought from them two years ago still have not lost any pads. Ordered a set in anticipation and will make them fit lol. Now to order the Clark M1 board to get the right sound.

Kenny Kong, also made tracks for the Leopard which will work well, these had rubber pads and quality will be excellent, they were made to fit the Tamiya Leopard

Actually both Abrams and M60 have been available for at least 4 years in full metal from I think and could be wrong Chunwai, I think they are in the region of 800€, I have never seen one on here, leastways not one owned by a member

I have looked hard at that Chunwai M60, but some members here have scared me away a bit by pointing out several glaring inaccuracies and shortfalls in quality electronics and at the listed price, I expect more. Why would Tamiya or HL not make an M60??? We used them up to the late 90's...At least we have a HL Abrams now..

I see they have the collumater for the gun sight on the side of the barrel like an A6Leopard. This is incorrect for an Abrams. They are on the top of the barrel on the M1 tanks. I guess you could cut it off and move easily enough.

I guess the Challenger failed on the bang/buck scale for export then. Canada had moved away for the MBT, but when they went to Afghanistan they discovered that was in fact a role for an MBT. So they wanted something. The Danes and the Germans had extras, so Canada bought them. They were in no position to have to wait for new ones to be built. I doubt they even considered the Challenger under the circumstances they found themselves in.
Actually we borrowed 20 from Germany have picked up a hundred from the Dutch 7 years ago.

Honestly, as a tank much who has experience, the turbine is cool but too much maintenance. I would be willing to bet that is mist of the season why other countries didn't buy any. Now there was a company taking first gen M1A1 and retrofitting a piston diesel.
And if anybody wants to argue speed and maneuvering, the Abrams is quick and all it takes is some computer reprogramming to see 80mph. The problem we had when it was tried is the sprocket bolts start sheering off and you could lose a sprocket quick. So basically, it doesn't matter on a tank what kind of power you are pushing, a tank is only as fast as the drive sprocket and bolts.

Hardball. I have heard rumor of 85 but did not see it and structurally don't know the final drive could handle it. The Bradleys were consistently 60-65 and if a new motor was just put in we did 67 on a dirt road around the trash pile in Baghdad. We had a civilian contractor that rebuilt the gun systems annually who installed software upgrades to our toughbooks that allowed the DECU reprograms. He was a cool did but it drove us nuts he was getting pain $150,000 a year to stay behind the FOB walls and do a job some of the other guys in the unit were trained to do. Since he was doing their job, they ended up turret gunners in sector taking rounds. Dang politics.

Yeah that's believable for a Bradley. I was offered a job with GDLS but I was tired of being away from home so I passed, plus I didn't like Iraq enough to go back voluntarily lol!

Since this tank is already out in China, I was able to find a few close up pics while browsing on Taobao.com (China's version of Ebay sort of):
In short, it looks like we're getting a new TX with new functions such as the ability to turn the smoke generator on and off remotely, as well as being able to adjust the volume from the TX. The commander figure looks unchanged from the M26 and M41 however.

Its no Tamiya, but then again neither is the cost. I like what I see and already have a set of accurate tracks waiting to go on. I even found my old CD with the shop manual the other day. It should be fun to make the skirt functional hinges, add anti slip texture to hull and turret, add the SEP and maybe TUSK kits. Just waiting to see what other upgrades pop up.

Seeing as there are at least a couple of guys here who have been around Abrams tanks for a bit, what's your take on the moldings - does Heng Long's offering look accurate, are the proportions correct? Previous attempts by Hobby Engine and Chunwai always seemed a little off to me.

From the pics it looks close. The space between road wheels 1 and 2 may be a touch less than accurate, but if so not much. Will have to actually measure it all when I get mine.

The Abrams well be a nice addition to the fleet, that will make 18. The M1 tracks look like the Leopard tracks.

If the tracks were close enough it could work, it wouldn't be correct but these tank are not all correct. If all the tanks were bang on, it would take all the fun out of
it. Making corrections, rebuilding, designing, making and adding parts is half the fun. For me it would be boring.
I have spent 5 years building and rebuilding the HL Tiger 1. Just have to touch up paint and weathering and it done. Building is what I enjoy the most

Well the new TX has been out for a while, they just repackaged it into a new case. The previous one also had the option to turn off the smoke unit from the TX as well. I have heard there are problems with the new TX, but then again we all replace it anyways right? What I am wondering is if they will continue to add the volume switches or on/off switches for the tank. My preproduction unit had them, so let us hope so.
