I knew we where going to start to see these. It is a very cool variant of the Sherman. The one Tamiya should have offered from the get go.

I've only been in this hobby less than two years, but I've been whinin' for an Easy 8 right from the start. I'm still saving for the tammy kit, as that's the only game in town for HVSS.

..I'm going down the budget route on this one. She's mostly Heng-Long with Tamiya bogies etc...going to have a DBC installed so she'll be a battler as well...

How on earth did you get Tamiya bogies without buying the whole kit? Would it be safe to assume that you also have a Tamiya sherman with mato VVSS on it?

How's Fyn? For some reason in my twisted mind I've nicknamed you "Poppa-of-Fyn". Yeah, I'm a little odd sometimes. Oh well.

You can buy all the componants for the HVSS seperately, but like you say I was lucky and got them secondhand from someone who had done the VVSS swap
..As for Fyn, everytime I start a build he asks "Is that going to be MY tank?"...LOL

Fyn sounds a lot like my nephew, Evan, who is 9. How old is Fyn? So far Evan just has an HL M-41 that was a parts tank and now we're slowly making everything function again.

I'll have to look into the components for HVSS, can you make any suggestions as to where to get this stuff and what all I'll need? Do you think I could convert the new imex/taigen sherman to HVSS?

Fyn's coming up for 8. He has been driving tanks all his life, he loves coming to meets and driving my tanks about. His brother is 5 and he's just as keen, actually a little too keen...I had to re-build the gearboxes in my Panther after the last time out.
I think Jasons store in Japan or the AAF (?) museum would be you're best bet...I'm sure some of guy's your side of the pond will point you in the right direction, although I don't think it's the cheapest route.....
If the Taigen hull is the same as the HL one it's straight forward. You need to remove the locating lugs and fit the Tammy gear in position...

I know you are probably already aware of this Maxu, but it might be more advantageous to wait on a score from fleabay and buy an older Tammy kit. I bought one new in the box with the older T-01 for $200 shipped.

I remember a thread a while ago about upcoming Heng Long releases and an M51 (with HVSS) was announced. So that could be a source for HVSS parts. No idea when this one will be released though.

Can't wait to see your Fury done! I recently built the smaller 1/35 M51 from Tamiya, now I can understand the Sherman obsession, they are really neat and compact machines!

Looks great.

Of course I sold my Tammy hull to Bob about 15 minutes before they announced they were working on the movie. Had I known...

I may have something for you to finish this off by the end of the week (provided the Silicone Gods smile upon me).

So, tell us how are you going to duplicate the suspension system? You are aware it is not a "Christie" design.

Double Huh?

I thought the original comment was meant for another thread or possibly some send up of the US not adopting his system, but now I have to ask, why is Christie even mentioned here?

If your going to build a copy of this tank then the suspension system should also be copied. The original suspension system was developed by a man named "Christie".

HVSS is not a Christie suspension, the two are completely different.

Yes, we all know about the Christe suspension. It was designed for greater speeds over rough terrain by not depending on return rollers. Return rollers like on this Easy 8 and every Sherman ever created. J Walter Christie's design was used by Russia and the UK during the WWII, not by the US, even though he was American.

Which was why no one seems to understand why you bring him up here. He had no input in the design of the Sherman, whether HVSS or VVSS.

Glad you straightened that out. It's hard enough for a new guy without this kind of confusion! There must be some kinda way out of here!
