Does anyone have any bad or good things to say about them? Im just curious because they were a lil more expensive than the other set. Like I said, they look and feel very durable, except for the pads.

I'm currently pretty interested in the current combo HobbyRaw has on offer, with all the metal bits and a steel gearbox.
Heck I even emailed them asking to remove the stock HL electronics, battery and wall charger and swap in the higher quality 'red motor' gearboxes... they are strangely accommodating :P

Tracks: The one with the pads that pry up seem like they would get sand and dirt caught in between the rubber pads and metal track sections. I say run them both a bit and let us know what you think.
Paint: I have tried Tamiya XF-49 Khaki and XF-57 Buff and they do not match the Abrams color. I will try XF-59 Desert Yellow and XF-60 Dark Yellow next.

The debate of the color is all over the web modeling sites. Sand FS33531 has been declared the perfect match for OIF Abrams tanks both USMC and Army. Their is a Gulf War Sand floating around, that is from Desert Storm. It was a color we acquired from the Saudis when we arrived there. It is too dark for OIF. The Sand looks light until you dirty it up and hit it with dull coat.

Pah: I will eventually run both sets, but it still gonna be awhile. Got the hull in 2 pieces right now, and priming all my new metal for paint as I type. Waiting for first side to dry right now. But Ihad thought about using CV glue ausingnd just gluing the whole pad so you can't peel them up. It'd take a lillil while, but I think it'd be worth it in the end.
Tex: the sand fs whatever numbers is one of theipaints I have. I'm going to use the bottom of the lower hull as a test area after I get the whole thing primed. Maybe I'll post pics with the four different colors once I start painting and let you guys see what you think.
Y'all stay posted, this may take a month or longer to finish. It's very exciting though. It's my first real overhaul of a tank. All my other tanks are Taigen, and besides changing gear boxes,motors and an occasional set of metal wheels, they already come with all the bells n whistles. Metal tracks, metal wheels, airbrushed hulls. I'm going to try and make this one nice as possible, and I'd like to share it all with you guys. Y'all are a big help when someone is stuck, or looking for ideas and

I think the testors GI sand would be perfect if it was a tad bit lighter. Any suggestions?

I recommend Tamiya Wooden Deck Tan, TS-68 or XF-78 for the small bottle. I used it to paint a 1/35 Abrams for a commission build.

Tex: so after many pics, and in several different lighting situations i agree. The sand you mentioned before is the best match I've found. Before i tackle the painting this weekend, I am going to darken it up a tad, just to give it a little more of a weathered look after detailing. I also tried a army/marine sand, but to yellow. If you hadn't suggested that color, I'd. Have never chosen it. It looked way to light,almost white. Anyway, i'll post pics after im done and let y'all see.

Paint #3 if it is in Iraq mainly because the sand is more yellowish. Paint #6 but just a tad darker is what I am used too but that would be a clean M1.
In reality the color range does differ slightly I have seen some that are nearly yellow and some that are closers to paint #6 straight from issue.

So i haven't been able to log on for a couple days, but i finally managed to. Got most of my painting done,installed new motor and gear combo which will be shown in the pix. Also installed metal wheels,sprockets,tracks, and 360° turret ring and electronics. Haven't had much time to test torque of new setup yet, but have bigger motors if the ones that came with it aren't torquey enough. Still have a little painting to do, and decals to be added but for my first paint job i think i did fair. I did go with sand #33531 and i believe it turned out nice. Plan on doing a running video that i will post later, but trying to let a lil snow melt first. It has nice scale speed and the padded tracks along with the speed defiantly make the tank more capable than my older armor. Hope i made y'all proud. Couldn't have done it without you.

Yes where did you get the gearbox? I have seen them online but all had the short shaft. I ordered the earlier version over a month ago from Hobby Raw. They have been sitting in outbound customs in China for 3 weeks. That's for another thread. I would prefer these but as I sad every where I've looked has the wrong shaft length.

Thanks guys! Really appreciate it. Yes the drive shafts are brass, and they are supposed to have improved motors attached. That is yet to be seen. They are actually HL ultimate edition II. I got them from TankArmy. They have a decent amount of inventory for quite a few tanks. All HL stuff i believe. The USD converts well into AUD, so prices are decent and they are also very helpful. And shipping from AU doesn't seem to take any longer then from China. I've ordered some metal parts for my m41 and pershing from them before. They were the only place i could find that had it and they were very helpfull then also.
Tex: I'll probably use the HL. I haven't the foggiest idea on how to make decals! Remember im still relatively new to this. The mechanical part comes fairly easy from prior rc knowledge and basic mechanical skills, but the art is a whole new thing to me. I've painted a few polycarbonate bodies before, but never even picked up an airbrush before this past weekend. But i am open to suggestions...
